The mayor of Šiauliai parted ways: why does the cleanest city due to COVID-19 have to wait until Vilnius reaches that indicator?

“Currently, the city of Šiauliai is the cleanest city in terms of COVID, but our beauty salons and other activities have to wait until Vilnius reaches the indicator. Why?”, – the mayor of Šiauliai raised the question in Facebook.

A. Visockas emphasized that although movement in circular municipalities is restricted, it occurs while residents are traveling for work. However, there is no possibility of going to enjoy nature outside the city.

“The residents of Šiauliai city cannot safely go to the Šiauliai district forests to strengthen their health or that of their families, even if the contact would be zero. The point is contact, not movement? The movement in the circular municipalities continues its course. You can get to work. And is it not possible to improve health safely? And we are all talking about health! Home – car – forest – home. Because it is not possible? ”, A. Visockas continued to ask questions.

According to the mayor, Šiauliai is forced to wait until the epidemiological situation in Vilnius improves.

“What if Vilnius doesn’t reach that indicator for another two or three months, and there will be, for example, 5,000 sick people in Šiauliai? Wouldn’t it be possible even then? “Continued A. Visockas.

Finally, the mayor of Šiauliai asked the government to “follow logic” and liberalize the movement in the ring municipalities.

“Please follow logic and allow the residents of Šiauliai to safely strengthen their health. In my opinion, police work in the municipalities of the ring makes little sense. Where do you lead? To the pharmacy. And that? ”Added A. Visockas rhetorically.

Delphi recalls that the government did not make decisions on additional quarantine releases on Wednesday, although earlier in the week the government’s emergency commission proposed allowing the opening of beauty and marketing businesses with separate entry from the field.

For his part, Vaidotas Zemlys Balevičius, a member of the Council of Health Experts, said he did not support plans to release the quarantine across the country. According to him, it would be possible to speak of releases in individual municipalities, where the situation is good, but maintaining movement restrictions between municipalities.

The government will consider the future course of managing the pandemic next week.
