The markets reopen their doors on Monday: shopping begins with empty pockets and old collections

The situation is difficult

For some time, outdoor cafes and sports clubs have functioned as shops in supermarkets. As of Monday, the markets, until now closed and sold in non-food products, will be able to resume their operations.

“We are preparing, of course, although we have been prepared for a long time and do not understand why marketplaces activities were banned at all, especially when it is already allowed to open shopping centers,” said Vytenis Butkevičius, Head of the Lithuanian Markets Association and Markets.

According to him, today’s markets are fully prepared to meet all the security requirements set by the government.

“We have good ventilation, there are wide areas, so there are more opportunities to keep all distances, we can disinfect everything, implement other security measures.

“Each trader in our market is individually interested in avoiding misunderstandings, because this is his workplace, his personal business, so I think he is much more motivated than a ship specialist,” he explained.

According to V. Butkevičius, although the opening of the markets is very happy, not all traders will return to work from tomorrow.

“It just came to our knowledge then.” Many people went bankrupt, many people no longer have working currency, because there was both the first and the second quarantine, which affected the merchants very strongly, “said the representative.

He said that the situation with the goods today is bad.

“They went out of style, after all, Christmas items were bought, so who will buy them now?

Who needs winter jackets and hats in summer? This makes no sense. People bought products so that they could sell them during the Christmas period.

It is not clear what the product is now. Where does a person get money to work? Borrow? ”Asked V. Butkevičius and got angry. He said there were no problems with testing before the merchants returned to work.

You will have to follow the rules

The COO decision on the prerequisites for the trading venues states that the market sector will also be indispensable without the security requirements.

Sellers, like buyers, are said to always have to wear medical masks or respirators, and the flow of buyers will have to be restricted.

In addition, it will be necessary to ensure that customers always keep a safe distance of at least 1 meter from each other in queues at checkouts, service points or at the entrance to the point of sale, and that the places where queues form must be marked at certain distances.

It is also indicated that the entrances to the markets must be provided with information on the number of buyers allowed at the point of sale and that a distance of at least 2 meters must be maintained between the distributors’ workstations, except when the partitions are at least 140 cm high, separating both employees and shoppers in queue.

“Merchants can refuse to sell products in cases where buyers do not wear masks,” the document says.
