Danas Arlauskas, president of the Lithuanian Employers’ Confederation, stated on the radio news program “Aktualusis interiu” on Tuesday that he heard slightly different information than that announced in the meeting with the head of government on Tuesday.

“But I asked directly how substantiated the rumors are that tomorrow’s government meeting will consider whether to put employers in charge of testing and pay for them. The prime minister said those rumors were not fully confirmed.

She said it will be considered, but such a direct obligation employers need for workers who don’t want to get vaccinated to pay for testing is certainly not that imperative. Therefore, they are still considering how to get out of that situation better with the least political losses, ”said D. Arlauskas on the radio newscast.

He said the prime minister agreed at the meeting that if that path was followed, the part of the workers who did not want to be vaccinated would probably not continue to do so.

“It just came to our attention then. The question is this, the Government understands, but it will depend on the Seimas. And there is a jazz club, any music can be played there, you can insert your own melody. And it is difficult to say how the music will be adjusted. Government proposal, “said the president of the Lithuanian Employers’ Confederation.

He said he hoped no such decision would be made.

“I agree that some employers will definitely be able to pay, they will be willing to pay. (…) Anything that can be done for less-skilled workers that doesn’t generate much value. (…) You see, we are causing some social problems here. And what to do with companies that have just come out of quarantine or downtime? They don’t have the financial flow to meet the needs of those who don’t want to get vaccinated but want to get tested. But we still don’t have a clear idea of how much it will cost. and how long it will take.

If the government puts this to the businessmen, it will face another problem: the same companies will come and ask for financial support so that they simply do not close, ”predicted D. Arlauskas.

“We have seen that the Prime Minister understands and although there was one piece of information in the public space, she said while talking to us about the other piece of information. What’s more, he agreed that it was not appropriate to include some professions on that list that required vaccination or testing. Because if you work remotely, you don’t have to insist so categorically, you have to look at a specific situation, “said D. Arlauskas on Tuesday night on the radio news.

Latvia has set foot in the elections

Latvian politician Romualdas Ražukas spoke on the show about compulsory vaccination in a neighboring country.

“The elections will take place in one year, exactly one year. And the pre-electoral fights have already started in the Seimas. It is already stuck, bored of all. And the president recalled that there is an epidemiological security law, which allows the introduction of vaccination without the Seimas. And on September 22 that decision was made by the Government, “he said.

There will be a transition period, but on November 1, some workers will only be able to work with vaccines.

“And as of November 1, all these categories must be vaccinated,” said R. Ražukas.

He said that in Latvia, employers lose responsibility for paying for employee tests.

Latvian politician R. Ražukas stated that the rate of vaccination in Latvia is not very fast. Latvia is behind Lithuania and Estonia.

The interlocutor of the program said that the government could not make a decision on how to cut contacts after a dramatic epidemiological forecast.

News Radio reported that the Health Ministry (SAM) declined to comment on the proposals on Tuesday, promising to do so on Wednesday.

If the government approves it, the Seimas will still have to decide. The effective date of this proposal is November 1. It is not yet clear which workers will have to be vaccinated, this will be determined by a government decree.
