The man who called BPC asked for military aid for the march to Moscow

According to BPC representative Vilma Juozevičiūtė, although very slowly, more and more people who call 112 are beginning to understand their true purpose (112 is not for all cases in life, but only for those who need the help of police, firefighters, doctors or environmentalists). Unfortunately, malicious and disruptive calls are not decreasing – in 2020. 203,805 interfering calls were recorded.

2020 Significantly reduced interfering SMS messages. 2019 50,208 messages were received and 122 requests were registered. 2020 39,700 messages were received and 226 requests were registered. The decrease in malicious SMS is believed to have been influenced by the fact that various senders of malicious and disruptive messages were sanctioned (fines were imposed).

Last year, as in previous years, people called BPC for a variety of things. Some of them are not evil, only people (usually the elderly) do not know where to go to find out the phone number or air temperature, communicate with journalists, etc.

In such cases, operators remind callers of the information service number 1588, which provides commercial, cultural, leisure, tourist and other information. It should be called by people who don’t know how to order food, register a pet with a vet, want to know the weather forecast or something.

One of the most unexpected requests for help of the past year came from an apparently very drunk man. BPC employees later joked that he probably had the idea to repeat King Algirdas of Lithuania’s trip to Moscow. The man wanted to occupy Moscow and with it the Kremlin. Although very drunk, he realized that one would not, so he called BPC and asked for military help.

The wishes of other callers are simpler. For example, one woman at the aid center tried to order zeppelins, and another asked firefighters to come to her and cut firewood.

With an old man, it was difficult to know who “Little” or “Pepper” was, who he wanted to call for help, because the latter had not eaten for three days.

And here a young man called 112 for emergency services to help him bring a drunk friend home.

On New Year’s Eve, an already dedicated man informed the BPC operator that they had “run out of New Year’s shampoo” and asked for more.

And for the other man, the holidays awakened his conscience. Calling the help center, the Vilnius resident admitted that he had stolen a Christmas tree before the holidays and now would like to return it.

The representative of BPC, V. Juozevičiūtė, recalls once again that the emergency number 112 is intended to report on the violation of the law, sudden threats to life, health, the environment or property and call services emergency to the place. It should be used responsibly and not occupy rows unnecessarily.

As in previous years, the police received the highest number of complaints: 540,006 (18,000 more than in 2019). This is the highest number of police calls in the last six years. The number of ambulance calls also increased to 444,471. Firefighters and rescuers came to the rescue 32,620 times and 15,149 environmental incidents were recorded.
