The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has now increased to 47,469 and the number of deaths to 1,732.

The ministry said 146 of the newly diagnosed infections were in the southern Silesian coal mining region, where the disease spread among local miners.

During the two days of the weekend, 1,206 infections and 15 deaths were confirmed in Poland.

1,841 patients with coronavirus were still being treated in Polish hospitals on Monday morning; 74 of them require artificial ventilation.

The total number of people recovered increased to 34,881, added the health ministry.

Saturday was the third consecutive day that a record number of new cases were registered in the country.

The number of cases registered on Thursday and Friday was 615 and 657 cases, respectively.

Before that, the daily number of new cases did not exceed the 600 case limit. On Friday, after a regular meeting of the government’s crisis management group, it was decided not to reinstate previously canceled coronavirus preventive measures.

However, the reintroduction of the mandatory quarantine for people returning from the epicenters of foreign viruses and the introduction of stricter measures in the areas with the highest incidence are being considered.
The country continues to require the use of face masks in confined spaces and public transport, as well as in public places, if it is not possible to maintain a safe distance of 1.5 meters.

Supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers, swimming pools and gyms have opened their doors. Weddings of up to 150 people are allowed.
