According to the portal BasketNews.lt, the dismissal of R. Javtokas, 41, from Kaunas “Žalgiris” is related to the upcoming presidential elections of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF).
In March, R. Javtokas officially announced that he would seek to replace Arvydas Sabonis as the country’s basketball coach. R. Javtokas will have to compete with renowned Lithuanian basketball coaches – Ramūnas Butautas and Vydas Gedvilas in the fight for the position of LKF president in the elections to be held in early September.
The second term of A. Sabonis as president of the LKF will end after the Tokyo Olympics. A. Sabonis has led the national basketball federation since 2011.
