The Jūratė family knows almost everything about butterflies: how to mate, what is the “butterfly effect” and why not touch the butterfly’s wings | Lifetime

One door is closed, the other opens

There are many metamorphoses in Jūratė’s life. He was in such a hurry to see this world that he was born alone … on a train. Mom was unable to get to the treatment center. Because her father was an officer, the family was stranded in the extreme north of Russia: the woman spent her childhood in Murmansk and returned to Lithuania at the age of fifteen. She knew Lithuanian, but to learn it well, the teenager had to sweat.

He wasn’t fascinated by his first job at the Computing Center at the Academy of Sciences, so when the opportunity arose, after lengthy deliberations, he started working at a private family store. After a while, after receiving an invitation to join one of the international active sales, Jūratė doubted again if he could do it, but accepted the challenge. He had to sell an extremely expensive clothes ironing system at the time. So far, the woman is surprised that people have bought this product.

In the room where the butterflies fly, a special atmosphere is created that you will not feel anywhere else.

After a few years of sales work, he received an offer to become a manager of the company’s Kaliningrad branch. Although the youngest daughter was still young, the man was released. Jūratė returns home once a month. Although the job was rewarding in terms of her career, the woman finally realized that she could not live like this any longer without a family, and announced that she would be leaving the job.

“One door is closed, the other one opens. This is usually the case. I had another day before the trip home. I decided to visit an exhibition of live tropical butterflies organized by one of my former employees. I just wanted to have fun with it and say goodbye. .

Speaking word after word, we began to consider that it would be interesting to organize such exhibitions also in Lithuania. Especially from that same year, while I was in the Merkin pyramid, I felt like I was flying. It seemed like a nice coincidence.

And when the idea catches fire, it happens a little. The butterfly was provided by a colleague and her husband, we bought a franchise and already in 2014. we organized the first exhibition of live tropical butterflies “, – the interviewee recalled the beginning of the business.

There was a cry for every dead butterfly

Because tropical butterflies are difficult to reproduce in our conditions, and most butterflies live for a short time, it is necessary to order new puppets from butterfly farms each time and create close to natural conditions.

The doll should hang as it naturally hangs, and the room should be about 30 degrees hot and about 80 percent hot. humidity. The puppets can be transported a day, a maximum of two, otherwise the butterflies will start to roll in the box, which is not a good thing. A butterfly is born as a child: you never know exactly when.

“In the room where butterflies fly, and there are about a hundred of them in the exhibition, a special atmosphere is created, which you will not feel anywhere else. There is a different aura. On the other hand, they are not afraid of people , so you generally will not take them in your hands.

However, the butterfly can be attracted to food: honey, fruit juice. We feed them with these things in autumn, when there are no natural flowers in Lithuania.

When we organize exhibitions not in our own facilities, but go to kindergartens or schools, we have to catch butterflies after classes with children. Sometimes it takes time because we don’t really understand them, but we attract. For example, you put food on its feet and wait for it to rise. Then you put it in a mesh box, sometimes with the whole fruit.

After the first show, we probably cried every butterfly when it did diedIt was very sad, but finally the experience arose that the butterfly is a fragile creature. Like a life that never lasts forever. Finally, even a sleeping butterfly is still beautiful, and beauty is pleasant …

In general, these activities have led me to rethink and differentiate many things in life. You start to appreciate the temporary, you don’t think everything will last forever, you understand that everything is temporary and you don’t know what will happen next, so you have to be happy with what is now, “the woman thought.

Does the butterfly really live someday?

Jūratė’s daughter, Aistė Kančiauskaitė, who also loves butterflies, not only helps organize exhibitions, but also creates informative videos about the life of butterflies, their types and quirks, which can be found both on her Facebook account. like on your Facebook account. Youtube platform.

“You have probably asked a person in love at least once in your life: ‘Do butterflies fly in your stomach?’ Throughout the world, a butterfly is identified with love and happiness. ” A very common saying in Brazil is happy as a butterfly. In Japan, the butterfly is a symbol of the happiness of a young woman in a new family. Only in Australia are butterflies mentioned in the abdomen when a person feels anxious. And in South Korea, the butterfly is one of the most popular cat names from ancient times to the present day.

In many ancient civilizations, the butterfly was a symbol of the dead soul. In Israel, for example, a butterfly is still called the Soul Butterfly, it should never be hurt and its appearance means that it protects you.

In other countries, a butterfly that has flown home means that a message must be brought. The more colorful it is, the better the message will be. In Christianity, the butterfly symbolizes the resurrection, and its hatching from the caterpillar is associated with the resurrection of Christ, “says the girl.

It is a world myth that a butterfly lives only one day. There are many instructive stories created about this that encourage people to enjoy every day. But this is a myth.

In fact, butterflies can live from one day to several weeks, and often up to several months. Summer Lithuanian butterflies, numbering almost 2,500 species, usually live for about 1-2 weeks. Several dozen of them can survive up to several months as they can migrate or fall asleep in hibernation.

The strangest food for butterflies.

What if there were no butterflies left in the wild? In particular, butterflies pollinate plants. It is one of the best plant pollinators in the world. Bees fly only short distances, and butterflies can carry nectar quite far.

Butterflies are also an important part of the food ecosystem. If they disappeared, there would be no food for birds, bats, mice. Bluetongs in the UK are estimated to consume more than € 50 million a year. Moths Butterfly eggs are also a great food for many animals, so only a small percentage of all eggs are left.

So butterflies are very important to the world, that’s why the famous saying was born: the butterfly effect. If something happens to butterflies anywhere on earth, many parts of nature undergo a chain reaction. In total, there are more than 150 thousand. butterfly species

A species of butterfly called a vampire was discovered in Siberia. Because they actually pump blood.

From the food that butterfly caterpillars feed on, it is possible to judge whether our environment is quality and ecological: if a caterpillar chooses its cabbage, it is a good sign. Also, caterpillars eat poisonous for various animals, but not the leaves themselves, and butterflies help break down the bodies of already dead animals by pumping fluids from those bodies. Some species of butterflies like animal tears, from which they obtain the salts necessary for mating. Sometimes they feed on soil or manure, which, by the way, is rich in useful substances. You probably didn’t know that the moths that “eat” our clothes are also butterflies.

A species of butterfly called a vampire was discovered in Siberia. Because they actually pump blood, injecting their long pump into a person’s skin like mosquitoes. This is believed to be due to an unusual diet – they have had to adapt to new opportunities to find food as the environment changes. Still, stay calm – there are very few butterflies of this type.

How butterflies mate and multiply

Butterflies, like many living things, need different sexes to reproduce. The body of a male butterfly is usually narrower, longer, and the body of a female is rounder because it is adapted to eggs. The eggs of some butterflies in the body develop only after the male fertilizes them, but some butterflies are already hatched with empty eggs.

The wings of a female of the same species are often larger than those of males, but males are usually more pronounced than females. This helps them get the “girl’s” attention faster. Many moths can be identified by their antennae: female antennae are in many cases thinner and less expressive than males. This allows males to feel better about the pheromones secreted by the female, since male moths, unlike daytime butterflies, search for females instead of finding them.

So the new butterfly starts with a small egg. Females lay eggs on the leaves of the plant, usually below them. Eggs are very small, making them difficult to see. Different butterflies need different plants. Typically, a species has only one, sometimes several plants to lay eggs on.

The egg matures from a few days to a few weeks. Occasionally it may take longer. The hatched caterpillar bites through an opening in the egg, then swallows the entire shell and, although already free, begins to chew on the leaves.

The butterfly caterpillar allows its life only by eating and sleeping. But in this way, it helps prepare the butterfly so that it is strong and can make us happy while it flies. The caterpillar eats so much that it is sometimes difficult to imagine, even a few times more than it weighs. All this is necessary for a beautiful and motley butterfly to form later when it becomes a doll.

The butterfly caterpillar allows its life only by eating and sleeping.

Scrubbed enough, the caterpillar first finds a safe and cozy place on the branch of the plant, dangles from its hind legs, and then magic takes place: the caterpillar changes beyond recognition and becomes a puppet, within which it begins to form a butterfly. Sometimes the puppets have to hang for weeks and sometimes for months before the butterfly forms, so it is very important that the caterpillar has passed the days of its life in a very efficient and satiated manner.

A few hours before the butterfly is born, the puppet becomes translucent, and finally a small butterfly with wrinkled and ugly wings emerges. It still can’t fly, it has to hang quietly until the wings dry and strengthen. For the smallest butterflies, it takes a few minutes, for the largest, even up to a day.

Why not touch the butterfly wings?

Butterflies usually have four wings. The upper wings are necessary for them to fly, the lower ones help to fly fast and maneuver. Each wing is made up of two thin, translucent membranes, and they are covered with many mirrors of different sizes and shapes, which resemble fish scales. They strengthen the butterfly wings.

When we touch the butterfly’s wings, those mirrors cling to our fingers like dust. And although they are invisible to the naked eye, the wing of the butterfly that has lost them becomes much more vulnerable, and it is very important that the butterfly keep its wings strong as long as possible. The age of a butterfly can also be distinguished by its wings: if its edges crumble, it means that it has lived for a long time.

Like butterflies see and hear

Although butterflies don’t see as brightly as we do, they see everything much more widely, so they can react more quickly to a situation like a flying bird. It can distinguish between ultraviolet light and polarized light, which helps butterflies find the flowers they need, finding the right match for the color of their wings.

They usually have two pairs of eyes, but we only see one. The first pair is intended only to separate the amount of light. The second pair consists of many small lenses and is the main vision tool.

They see an image decomposed into many particles. Most butterflies see only a few colors: red, yellow, blue, and green, but many butterflies can see much more. For recreation and hiding, they prefer green and food: yellow and red. They can also see objects that move very fast and that a human cannot see (moving up to 50 times faster than a human can see).

Butterflies don’t have ears, but they feel much better than we do. Like dolphins, they feel the sounds of vibration: the sound that bounces off the butterfly’s wing moves it. It is true that their hearing is not as polite as that of dolphins. When they feel threatening sounds, they immediately change their territory or trajectory.

They better recognize the sounds their enemies make and the flapping of wings of the same type of butterflies. Night butterflies hear best because nocturnal hunting animals, such as owls, know how to do it silently.
