Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Europe, the government urges those who intend to go abroad to assess the situation responsibly.
“Travelers should be familiar with the requirements of a particular foreign country upon arrival in the country, what additional documents may be required. It is especially important to pay attention to the fact that the disease situation can change very quickly and this can lead to the renewal of the necessary restrictions both in foreign countries and in Lithuania, “says Giedrius Surplys, adviser to Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, head of the Public Information Group.
The government cautions that Poland could be added to the list of countries affected by the coronavirus in the near future.
“Our goal is to minimize inconvenience to our citizens due to the increasing number of people infected with COVID-19 in Europe, so we only update the list of countries from which we have to isolate ourselves once a week.” However, as before, the best “policy” to insure against the new coronavirus is for each of us to be vigilant, “says Surplys.
The affected areas are considered to be countries where the incidence rate in the last 14 days exceeds 16 cases per 100,000. population. Foreigners arriving from countries with a morbidity rate higher than this number should be isolated for 14 days, and those arriving from third countries included in the list of affected countries should be isolated and analyzed for coronavirus infection.
Isolation facilities, transportation to isolation facilities and the location of the coronavirus infection test, as well as the coronavirus infection tests for foreigners arriving in Lithuania for work or with special permits must be provided and paid for by the employer, the inviting person or the foreigner.
Lithuanian citizens returning from countries where the morbidity rate exceeds 16 cases per 100,000. population, 14 days of isolation is mandatory.
These measures also apply in cases where people have traveled through the affected countries in transit (by car, public transport), with the exception of traveling by plane when they do not leave the airport transit area.
People returning or arriving from countries on the list of affected countries must register and send their data to the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) within 24 hours.
This procedure is valid for both Lithuanian citizens returning from these countries and foreigners with an entry permit.
Mandatory isolation introduced for Lithuanians returning from France and Malta
Lithuanians returning from France and Malta will be subject to mandatory two-week isolation starting Monday.
These two countries are included in the list of affected countries due to the high incidence of coronavirus.
At the moment, foreigners are also allowed to come to Lithuania from France, but they also need two weeks of isolation. Foreigners cannot enter Malta, except with the exceptions provided by the Government.
Self-isolation is necessary when arriving or returning from countries with a morbidity rate of 16 cases per 100,000. population in the last two weeks.
Foreigners from Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, Ireland, Cyprus, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Hungary can enter Lithuania without restrictions.
