The Belarusian government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have not agreed to support the country’s recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Gerry Riceas, director of the IMF’s communications department, says no agreement has been reached on a different approach to how the government is responding to current problems, according to the Belarusian portal TUT.BY, based on the Russian agent TASS.
The conditions for granting a financial loan are not announced.
Mr. Riceas explained that these were IMF measures aimed at helping countries affected by the pandemic.
The aid mechanism does not include strict conditions, but guarantees of transparency and political decisions that the aid will be used to operate a pandemic and stabilize the economy, the IMF spokesman said.
With such guarantees, he explained, the country’s actions were in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the representative of the IMF, this is a standard procedure that applies to all countries to which the Fund provides financial assistance.
