The idea of an immunity passport scares the president of Seimas: will the criteria for “negative tests” work?

“Basically, I am in favor of an immunity passport that would open the door to more communication. However, I am also in favor of a very responsible evaluation of the criteria for obtaining such a” passport. “

I understand Israel, where the ‘green passport’ arose, when about half of the people were vaccinated with both vaccines and even more with the first vaccine. Clearly safe. It also worked as an incentive for skeptics to get vaccinated, ”wrote V. Čmilytė-Nielsen on Facebook.

The Seimas Spokesperson stated that she understood that those who had fallen ill could also be included in the criteria.

“At least 3 months they have immunity. And it is difficult to prove. But then how long would an immunity passport be valid for those people? For me, for example, the antibodies dropped dramatically within 4 months after the illness. After 5-6 months, I wonder if I would be safe, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

He also questions the criterion of “negative evidence” to obtain such a passport.

“It just came to our attention then. 4 infected, although, according to the organizers, all were examined and admitted to the event with only negative tests,” wrote V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

He wonders how long that passport will be issued for.

“For the day? I understand that the tests on the way to work: coming, having received a negative test, means not being sick. But that does not mean that you will not get sick in a week. Therefore, employees should be tested continuously As members of the Seimas they test themselves before the sessions.

Therefore, I believe that if we really care about safety, we should not rush with such decisions, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

According to the president of Seimas, there are more questions about these criteria.

“For example, why should those who have become ill be superior to those who have protected themselves from the disease? And finally, shouldn’t we encourage vaccination? And why should people get vaccinated if they can only have a passport of immunity with a negative test? ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

The Freedom Party is pushing for the idea to be implemented faster

As already announced, the Freedom Party faction is pressuring the government to immediately implement the idea of a national immunity passport, which would allow companies to open up and receive services for vaccinated, sick or screened people.

“Our group proposes to prepare and introduce an immunity passport immediately. It would apply not only to those who have already been vaccinated, but also to those who have acquired immunity after illness or a negative test result,” said Ieva Pakarklytė , the largest of the Liberty Faction, after a remote meeting with the Minister of Health, Arūnas Dulkis.

The MEP explained that according to his idea, the immunity passport should be electronic, which could be printed if necessary.

“It would be marked there that a person who is sick, vaccinated or has a negative test result in the relevant period, can attend, say, cultural events, travel to outdoor cafes. I would be free from certain social activities. In this way, we would create an opportunity to go to events and work for companies.

We also believe that an immunity passport would speed up the rate of vaccination. We are approaching mass vaccination, and what no one would really want us to face is a situation where we already see that this immunity passport is important for us, necessary, but technically not ready for it, ”said I. Pakarklytė.

The freedom faction has no hope that that immunity passport will be presented the next day.

But IT solutions must be developed now. We are not going to make it happen tomorrow, only to the extent that full attention must be paid to it so that we already have the first product in April, and in May, and perhaps before, it is possible to use it ”. I said I. Pakarklytė.
