The Hockey World Championship will not visit Lithuania

According to R. Faselis, who communicated remotely with Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte, Denmark and Slovakia, who already have experience in organizing such events, remain the main candidates to replace Minsk, which has been deprived of the right to host the planetary championships.

It is also possible that all championship fights take place in Latvia.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Lithuanian government, which is willing to help us. I really appreciate Lithuania’s proposal, but at the moment it does not make sense to have many candidates,” TASS quotes R. Faselis.

The World Championship will be held from May 21 to June 6, with the participation of the 16 best teams.

We remind you that a few days ago the IIHF revoked the right of Minsk to organize a tournament. The decision was made for security reasons: the IIHF Council decided that the welfare and safe movement of players, referees, spectators and the media in the Belarusian capital would not be possible due to increasing political tensions in the country and the difficult situation in COVID-19.

At the government level, Lithuania offered assistance to Latvia in organizing priorities.
