“The answers were delivered via e. document management system on January 2, 6 pm The minister instructed the team to assess the responses provided and the circumstances indicated, “Aistė Šuksta, spokesman for the Minister of Health, told BNS on Monday.

The Health Ministry reported last week that 804 unaccounted deaths related to the coronavirus were detected during the digitization of NVSC operations.

Last Tuesday, A. Dulkys discussed the situation with R. Petraitis, but said that he was not convinced by the answers from the head of the NVSC, so he asked to present them in writing.

At the time, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė reacted more harshly: she said that the NVSC leadership must take responsibility.

NVSC chief R. Petraitis announced at a press conference on Sunday that there had been a significantly higher number of unaccounted for deaths: 1,171, but assured that the situation was not due to the fault of the institution he ran, but to the lack of timely information provided by hospitals.

The Statistics Department said Monday that a total of 1,950 people have died from coronavirus. However, the department cautioned that death statistics are currently being reviewed and the figures provided are taken from death certificates.

The number of deaths from other causes is not yet provided, these figures are also recalculated.
