The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Rimantas Sinkevičius, also stated that Lithuanians leaving for some Balkan countries may face difficulties.

“We want to warn about the Balkans, where statistics show an increase in coronavirus infections. To make a person aware that it may not be worth the drive, as there may be difficulties due to transportation on the return or possible self-isolation On the return (…) We would like to warn you in advance that they (tour operators – BNS) will also inform customers when they sell trips that it is possible, “R. Sinkevičius said on BNS on Tuesday.

According to the minister, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation will discuss this situation with tour operators on Wednesday.

“We will deliver that message (regarding the provision of information to tourists – BNS) at a meeting with tourism organizers,” said R. Sinkevičius.

Milda Plepytė-Rainienė, director of the Lithuanian Tourism Association, stated that restricting opportunities to travel to Romania and Bulgaria would be a great loss for tour operators. However, he emphasized that if it turns out that traveling to these countries is not safe, tour operators will follow the instructions of the authorities.

“In evaluating today’s situation and circumstances, the closure of Bulgaria as a destination would be a great loss to tour operators as we currently do not have many crossings where travelers can go. There are only a few addresses that have been opened and to which are taking organized tourist trips, ”MNS Plepytė-Rainienė told BNS.

“We also have to think about the fact that people who planned to travel to Turkey or Spain had the opportunity to change their address, change their date, and are really an important part of the travelers who moved to Greece or Bulgaria,” he added.

Charter flights are currently organized from Lithuania to Bulgaria and Greece, and regular flights to Croatia and Cyprus.

According to Ms Plepytė-Rainienė, as soon as the trips started to organize, people’s interest is visible: the first trips to Greece and Bulgaria were completely filled.

“People are coming back and the desire to travel has not disappeared. This is evidenced by the first scheduled flights to Greece and Bulgaria, with planes taking off completely.” Our citizens are ready to go on vacation and plan their vacations, but, for Of course, there are more questions, they turn and ask more actively, “he said.
