Australian who wore Vilnius Rytas and Panevėžys Lietkabelis shirts in the past Ben Madgen announced the end of his career on social media.
The 35-year-old defender reported that he hung sneakers on a nail in a sensitive Instagram post.
“It is time for basketball to say goodbye.” For over ten years, I have lived my dream of playing basketball and positively influencing as many people as possible through it. The time has come to say goodbye to play basketball. For more than a decade, I have been living my dream of playing basketball and trying to make a positive impact on as many people as possible throughout the game. Basketball has taken me around the world, the experiences I had and the people I met along the way have been incredible; Being able to live my dream still seems surreal. As an athlete, we are judged primarily on our performance on the court, but I consider the most fulfilling achievement of my career to be starting the ‘Madgen Message of Hope’ and seeing those kids smile from ear to ear after the game, win or lose. It is something I will never forget. So he blessed having two beautiful children with my wife Bria and the time has come to focus exclusively on them, especially my little man Xavier. Xavi was diagnosed with autism and is receiving treatment for PANDAS, and the constant and exhausting schedule that comes with playing basketball puts a lot of pressure and pressure on Xavi and my family. There is no role more important to me than Dad and I know how critical these formative years are to him and I know that helping him give his best is something I will never regret. The past few years have been truly challenging, yet we have been shown so much kindness and support from so many people within the Autism and PANDAS community. Madgen made no secret of the fact that one of the reasons for the end of his career was the well-being of his family. The basketball player’s son suffers from autism, and regular trips pose additional stress.
The 193-cm-long defender managed to play in Belgium, Lithuania and Germany during his career, and during the last season he returned to his native Australia, where he wore a Melbourne Phoenix jersey.
With both Rytas and Lietkabelis, B. Madgen won the silver medals of the Lithuanian Basketball League (Betsafe-LKL) and the King Mindaugas Cup (KMT).
The defender ended his career with his head held high as he has shown solid play at the Australian championships thus far. In 28 minutes, he scored 12.1 points (33 percent of three points), 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 11.4 profit points.
