We pay close attention to the search for the plot, we look for an exceptional place, next to the river, which symbolizes the flow of life and the circle of life and at the same time reminds us that birth and death are natural processes. They are always next to each other. The main task of the architects was to take advantage of the advantages of the place, adapting them to the subtle farewell experience ”, shares B. Vilkelis.
He also points out that the well-known concept of a funeral home is not entirely accurate. After all, no one buries the deceased at the funeral home. The concept of the farewell home is much broader. “Working in this market, we see that both the traditions and the preferences of the people for this delicate service are changing, so the ‘farewell house’ is a concept of organization of funeral ceremonies that better meets the needs of the people” , says B. The new concept of farewell house in Kaunas has a total of four farewell halls, they can accommodate from 30 to 100 people. All the space and movement of people is planned so that one can focus and focus on the farewell ceremony in progress.
In order to let as much natural light into the premises as possible, many large windows were deliberately installed overlooking the Neris, but the interior of the lobby is not visible because the windows reflect light. Privacy is also solved with the design of outdoor spaces: from spring, those who want to breathe fresh air or stay with them will be able to retreat to the park or specially designed quiet spaces with a separate exit from each corridor.
To avoid complicated logistics, there is also a bright room for mourning lunches. Those arriving by car will be able to drop them off at the farewell house, and to and from the cemetery, if necessary, take a special bus. After a sad lunch, everyone can jump into their car or choose public transportation – the North Avenue stop is right next to the farewell house.
“When designing the Requiem, we first sought to alleviate a difficult moment with our competence and experience, but at that moment the emotional side is also very important. Our relationships with clients are defined by professionalism, respect, and empathy; we look at each person and individual situation with sensitivity, we support, help and orient ourselves in the right direction ”, says B. Vilkelis on the basis of the farewell activities at home.
The farewell house will open its doors on Jonavos str. 41A, right next to the Eiguliai cemetery, on the banks of the Neris, so it will be easily accessible from anywhere in the city or even from other cities. Established at the entrance of the ring road, it will allow convenient access to other great Kaunas cemeteries: Karmėlava or Romainiai. There are no residential houses nearby, so it will be possible to accompany your loved one in a complete natural environment.
As of February 5, “Rekviem” will be able to say goodbye to the relatives whose remains will be cremated, that is, it will be possible to keep urns in the corridors. An armory service for the deceased will also be offered soon.
