The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that people arriving in Latvia from Estonia will have to isolate themselves for 14 days starting on Saturday to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
According to her, such a decision is related to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Estonia.
People coming to Latvia from Lithuania will not need to be isolated, because morbidity here in two weeks does not exceed 16 cases per 100,000. population.
Exceptions can be made for travelers for certain work, academy, health, childcare, and family care reasons. Additionally, travelers in transit are exempt from the isolation requirement.
Riga decided to maintain free movement in the cities of Valga and Valka, through which the Estonian-Latvian border passes. However, only residents who have not traveled outside the township area in the past two weeks will be exempt from isolation.
The new restrictions will not affect the free movement of goods.
When arriving in Latvia by international transport, it will be mandatory to fill in the form issued, indicating, among other things, which countries the person has visited in the last two weeks.
Those arriving in Latvia from high-risk countries should wear a protective mask in public places. The government recommends that these people refrain from having contact with those around them and that they take precautions when working.
A person subject to the isolation requirement has the right to return to his country or change the place of isolation after wearing a mask, after informing the Latvian police.
On May 15, after Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia lifted restrictions on free movement that applied to each other, the “Baltic Bubble” was formed.
Citizens of these countries were allowed to travel freely through the three Baltic states; They did not have to isolate the border crossing, as long as they had not left the three countries in the last 14 days, did not have to comply with the quarantine and did not have symptoms of respiratory diseases.
During the pandemic, the Baltic bubble became the first travel zone of its kind in the 27 members of the European Union to stimulate national economies.
