On Monday the electricity transformer near the “Europa” business center in Vilnius was turned off, a shopping center of the same name announced.
People in the Europa shopping center were also evacuated due to a fire in the transformer.
“In order to guarantee the safety of visitors and employees, the evacuation of the shopping center was announced. Currently, experts are assessing the situation both in the business center where the fire occurred and in the shopping center. It will only be reopened after making sure that it is completely safe to visit the center, ”the director of the shopping center quotes Eglė Juškienė.
According to her, the causes of the fire are not yet known and the property damage will be determined.
Edita Zdanevičienė, representative of the Department of Fire Protection and Rescue, informed BNS that the fire had started at the electricity transformer near the 18-story business center located at 7A Konstitucijos avenue.
Vilnius County Police Representative Julia Samorokovskaya told BNS that the incident report was received at 2.26 pm.
“A security guard reported that something was exploding in the Europa business center and a transformer turned on,” he said.
Several police teams were dispatched to the scene and a large fire force was working: five tanker trucks, a ladder for cars, and a car for staff.
