As Justinas Krėpšta, director of the Kaunas State Philharmonic, confirmed to Delfi last year, the maestro was suffering from coronavirus.

“Since the master’s two sons are abroad, the family decided to cremate the body and say goodbye in their homeland, Dzūkija, in the spring, when the situation will be over. However, he was a great man. We only have three musicians of this level in Lithuania. This is Saulius Sondeckis, who founded the Lithuanian Chamber Ensemble and brought our musical culture to the world, the leader of the national symphony orchestra Juozas Domarkas and Petras Bingelis, who created and brought the Kaunas choir and represented our choral culture to the highest level. level. I do not mean at the European level, but at the world level: Egypt, Chile and Argentina, the best festivals and the largest venues in the world “, – then J. Krėpšta commented on” Delfi “.
