At the last court hearing, A. Paleckis’ defense lawyer asked the State Security Department (SSD) to answer whether there were obligations between this intelligence institution and Deimantas Bertauskas, a Vilnius businessman accused in the case along with the former politician.

In the case, A. Paleckis and D. Bertauskas are accused of spying for the benefit of another state by acting in an organized group. The former politician denies and pleads guilty after conducting a journalistic investigation. D. Bertauskas admits guilt.

The case was designated to be heard in Šiauliai by the Lithuanian Court of Appeal when the Vilnius Regional Court withdrew.

In early January, the court extended the preventive detention measure imposed on both A. Paleckis and D. Bertauskas – intensive supervision – for another three months.
