“In autumn, we are confident in the knowledge that the second wave of coronavirus is inevitable and will undoubtedly affect both the life of Vilnius and the work of the municipality. It was only a matter of time, so we were preparing for that: we approved the action plan, how we will react when we have the first case of COVID-19 in our team. This weekend, the plan had to be activated: the first municipal employee was confirmed to have a positive coronavirus test, ”Remigijus Šimašius wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the information was forwarded without delay to the National Center for Public Health.

“Only on weekends, as the number of infections in the country continues to grow, the center turns out to be closed, I hope that sooner or later it will react. It would be better sooner, of course. We ourselves work the weekend, the disinfection was carried out both in the office and in the common areas and elevators, ”said the mayor.

According to R. Šimašius, it is already known that the employee did not have many contacts, “after responsibly assessing the situation, he isolated himself and immediately informed the managers about the results of the investigation.”

“A possible circle has also been identified, I myself had no contact with this employee. Employees of the department were also contacted to reorient work remotely in the near future, ”he wrote.

I invite not only the employees of the municipality, to whom I already sent this message in the letter sent in the morning, but also the heads of companies, institutions and establishments located in Vilnius to promote telework as much as possible, let us do everything possible to make our employees feel safe at work. No less important is the non-stigmatization of these cases and the support or assistance to the employees ”, added the mayor.
