The coronavirus was detected in a Vilnius resident returning from Serbia: traveling by train and asking for help from the population.

Ginreta Megelinskienė, Head of the Communicable Disease Management Division of the Vilnius Department of the National Center for Public Health, informed BNS about it on Wednesday.

According to her, a person flew from Belgrade to Palanga through Dortmund on June 23, a plane with flight number W68128 landed at the airport at approximately the seventh night.

According to G. Megelinskienė, Serbia was not included in the list of affected areas at the time.

A friend picked up a person from the airport, and the next day a six-hour Vilnius resident arrived in Vilnius on a train leaving Klaipeda, was traveling in a sixth carriage, and a friend picked up a person from the capital.

“Residents are being asked for help because we are in the public, which car the person was in, and which plane he was flying,” said the public health specialist.

The Vilnius resident experienced the first symptoms of coronavirus on June 24 and was tested five days later.

According to epidemiologists, according to G. Megelinskienė, the person stated that he did not visit shops and bars, he used personal protective equipment on the plane, but he did not use them on the train.

There are currently two friends of the infected in isolation who picked him up from the airport and the train station, epidemiologists are checking the number of people in contact on the plane and on the train and asking for additional information from the population.

Tomas Digaitis, a representative from Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, informed BNS that there were about 20 passengers in the train car carrying the infected person, and several of them were sitting next to him.

“There were about 20 people in the car at the time and three or four were sitting next to it,” said a company spokesperson.

He also added that the Lithuanian Railways had asked to isolate the two drivers who had worked on the train for a week and monitor their well-being, so far their health is good.
