COVID-19 was established for four Franciscan monks in Kretinga, two church employees and a member of their family. As reported, they have no symptoms. Now they will have to isolate themselves before Christmas, by then part of the services will take place in the chapel, and the church will be run by monks from Klaipeda.

However, as Jolanta Girdvainė, the head of the Kretinga Emergency Situations Commission and the director of the municipal administration, commented on the situation, it was received that the monks visited the houses of the parishioners and gave them the sacraments. Therefore, all Kretinga residents who have had contact with the monks are asked to observe themselves.

In August, the monastery had already lost a monk infected with COVID-19. It was later claimed that he may have contracted the dangerous virus while traveling in the Czech Republic.
