The Kaunas youth team “Žalgiris” will have to play in the next matches of the National Basketball League (NKL) without a part of the coaching staff.
Even before the start of the new year, several coaches were isolated after experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus, and this week the entire team underwent an extensive investigation.
Three Žalgiris-2 coaches and two basketball players tested positive for coronavirus. It should be noted that up to 11 basketball players and 2 members of the coaching staff were infected with coronavirus as early as November and had antibodies, so the team continued training after consulting with the National Center for Public Health (NVSC).
“Žalgiris-2” prepares for this Thursday’s match with the Klaipėda team “Neptūnas-Akvaservis”, where the coach of the young Žalgiris will be led by a coach Dalius Lubys.
In November, when the majority of the Žalgiris youth team suffered from coronavirus, the training process was stopped and the match was postponed for more periods.
However, the Kaunas players who returned to the field achieved a series of 5 victories in the NKL championship, and they have currently won 13 of the 19 matches and are among the championship leaders.
