“The actions of the International Criminal Court are an attack on the rights of the American people and a threat to our national sovereignty,” White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement.

The US administration is also not satisfied with an investigation by the Hague-based court into possible war crimes committed during the protracted conflict in Afghanistan.
In late 2017, the Gambian chief prosecutor, Fatu Bensouda, asked the judges for permission to investigate alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan by the Taliban, the Afghan government and international allied forces, including US troops.
Last year, the United States administration revoked the visa issued to the prosecutor, demanding that the ongoing investigation be terminated.
However, in March, the judges allowed the investigation to continue, reversing an earlier decision to reject Bensoud’s initial request to open an investigation into alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.
The United States never joined the ICC, established in 2002, and does not recognize its jurisdiction in the United States. Washington claims that the ICC is a threat to its national sovereignty. The administration of former President George W. Bush has actively urged other countries not to recognize this court.
