The BLM movement was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The movement, founded in the United States eight years ago, grew in 2020. in May, following the death of a black man, Georgeas Floyd, at the time of his arrest, who had been pushed to the ground by a policeman for 8 minutes.

The man’s death sparked protests in the United States, which later spread across the world.

“This movement has become one of the strongest global movements in the fight against racial injustice,” Norwegian MP Petter Eide, a member of the Socialist Left Party (SV), told AFP. He was nominated by the BLM for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The movement has spread in many countries, raising awareness of the importance of combating racial injustice,” the politician stressed.

Candidates for various Nobel prizes can be nominated by tens of thousands of people, including parliamentarians and ministers from all states, former Nobel laureates, and prominent scientists.

Offers are expected on February 1 and the winner will be announced in October.

Other candidates include Wikileaks founder Julian Assangea, former US President Donald Trump, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Cichanouskaya.
