“The Coordination Council has been formed to conduct the negotiations, and the NAV will be the institution that will ensure that future goals of starting negotiations and stabilizing the situation in the country during the transition to democratic forces are met,” he added.

It also points out that the National Anti-Crisis Board “will also address the challenges facing the country from the moment the former president resigns until the new elections and the transfer of power to the new government.”

The NAV will be headed by P. Latuška. He said the board team, to assist the headquarters and the Coordinating Council of former presidential candidate Sviatlan Cichanouskaya, “would make concrete proposals: how to address the root causes of the crisis, initiate negotiations, correct the economy, restore legitimacy and plus”.

The National Anti-Crisis Board is still being formed.

For the third month in a row, there have been massive protests in Belarus over the presidential elections on August 9, which have been declared the winners by Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and western democracies consider these elections to be rigged.

In mid-August, Cichanouskaya supporters established a Coordination Council with the aim of handing over power to hold new elections. The Belarusian leadership considers the council unconstitutional.

At present, almost all the members of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council, with the exception of the Nobel Prize for Writing Sviatlan Aleksiyevich, are in detention or have gone abroad.

Aleksiyevich is also currently abroad for health reasons.

The disputed elections in the country sparked unprecedented protests against Lukashenko’s 26-year-old government, which received a strong response from the power structures.

Tens of thousands of people take part in Sunday’s demonstrations organized by the Belarusian protest movement.

After the elections, the government cracked down on demonstrations, killing several people, arresting thousands more and displaying horrific detainee reports of violence in prisons.

On Monday, the opposition declared a general strike following the end of the ultimatum issued by Chichanouskaya to Mr. Lukashenko to resign and end the violence against protesters.
