Production has not been resumed until now, Litgrid representative Jurga Eivaitė told BNS. She could not say the reasons for this.
The State Atomic Energy Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) states that it has no information on the development of the energy start-up of the Astrava nuclear power plant.
“In this stage, as in others, the equipment and systems of the unit are tested, they are tested if defects are found and they are eliminated. We have also not received information about the permit for later stages – pilot industrial operation, ”BNS commented on VATESI.
Electricity generation at the Astrava nuclear power plant began last Tuesday, and over the weekend, Minsk announced that the capacity of the first reactor had been increased to 400 megawatts (MW). Immediately after connecting to the grid on Tuesday, the Astravo nuclear power plant was operating at 250 MW.
Minsk states that the test programs foresee that the capacity of the power unit will gradually increase to the design level of 1,190 MW, and commissioning of the first power unit for industrial operation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. .
An official NPP inauguration ceremony was also held in Minsk on Saturday, with the participation of Belarusian authoritarian leader Aliaksandr Lukashenko.
Lithuania stopped trading Belarusian electricity as soon as it started generating electricity, on November 3.
At that time, after the commissioning of the Astrava nuclear power plant, Latvia started trading electricity with Russia according to a new methodology, which has not been approved by the Lithuanian regulator: the State Energy Regulatory Authority (VERT ).
VERT said on Wednesday that Latvia and Estonia cannot trade electricity through their connections with Russia under the new tripartite Baltic methodology until they have been approved by regulators in the three countries.
