Argentine President Alberto Fernández, who was vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Russian vaccine, announced Friday night that he had been diagnosed with a coronavirus.

President Fernández was vaccinated with Sputnik V for the first time in January and the second dose was administered on February 11.

April 2, he was diagnosed with coronavirus.

“With a temperature of 37.3 degrees and a mild headache, I took an antigen test with a positive response,” the president wrote on Twitter.

He added that he is still waiting for the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to confirm the diagnosis. He also claimed to feel good physically.

Russia’s Gamalay Center, which has developed the Sputnik V vaccine, said a positive test from the Argentine president meant the vaccine would attenuate the coronavirus.

The Sputnik developers emphasize that the vaccine protects 91.6% against the coronavirus and 100% against serious diseases.

“The vaccine ensures that the patient recovers quickly without serious symptoms. We wish him the best, “the Gamalėja Center report reads.
