In the program, the interlocutor said that the investigated acceleration of the epidemic has slowed somewhat in recent days.

“In the last few days, last week we saw exponential growth: the number of infections increased by 5, 10 percent. But just yesterday, the day before yesterday, we calculated the relative change in the daily increase of infections. Generally speaking, this is acceleration of the epidemic. Our findings made us as happy as possible in a situation like this. Because the acceleration of the epidemic has slowed slightly in recent days, which is a good sign “, R. Kalėdienė assessed the epidemiological situation in Lithuania on Tuesday morning.

Many are also worried about the upcoming Christmas. The LSMU professor said he just needed to learn how to live with this pandemic.

“It just came to our attention then. It really has a very negative effect on our psychological health. It is very painful to hear that it is said that Christmas will not come this year, there will be those celebrations, there will be evenings with family and relatives, but you have to be vigilant and not to get together in large companies, not to walk unnecessarily through supermarkets. They will be different “, said the interlocutor.

“We are seeing a slight increase in the number of cases per day, which has slowed down a bit in recent days. But that does not mean that we can relax,” explained the interlocutor.

The LSMU professor said the spike in new diseases depends on many factors.

“Last week we announced several scenarios: an optimistic scenario and a pessimistic one. It depends largely on the implementation and enforcement of the restrictions. Experience in other countries shows that after the introduction of restrictions, the effect occurs after approximately 2-3 weeks. Therefore, by restricting the mobility of our population and increasing the use of its security measures, we can expect to see an effect in a few weeks, “he said.

After assessing the Lithuanian movement last week, it became clear that the situation is improving: residents began to spend more time at home, less at work. Only visits to supermarkets and stores did not decrease.

When asked if the current measures are sufficient, R. Kalėdienė stated that no, it is necessary to stop the growth of new cases faster.

“In the spring, when the strict quarantine was introduced, the decrease was 3.8 percent per day. We now had growth of 5 to 10 percent every day. Therefore, we need to implement measures that turn the curve in the opposite direction. We estimate that we can expect positive results if growth is reduced by at least 2 percent. Local quarantines are really paying off, we are seeing a slowdown in acceleration. But there is definitely a need to tighten restrictions. ” said Prof. Dean of the Faculty of Public Health of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. R. Christmas.

She asked to avoid mass gatherings at sports clubs. And agreed that stricter restrictions would be needed.

“I think so. While we all understand that the total quarantine would actually be very difficult for our economy, people, both financially and psychologically. Therefore, efforts are being made to circumvent the more lenient measures. But it has a lot to do with our conscience, ”said the professor.

From Tuesday through the end of this week, students in grades 5-12 will study remotely. According to the LSMU representative, they should not contact the training again yet.

“We cannot say now if the measures that are in force now, I mean restrictions on the movement of pupils, students, or that is enough. We have seen that many chimneys have appeared in the meeting places of the students, in the educational institutions, therefore, we should probably wait a little ”, said R. Kalėdienė, the interlocutor, about re-contacting education.

When asked which areas to look at, R. Kalėdienė named the most painful and sensitive.

“It just came to our notice then. I still couldn’t say what will be featured. But I think there will definitely be even stricter restrictions on meetings, sporting events, sport club activities, restaurants, bars, club activities. I think this is the area. that it will be more limited ”, predicted the interlocutor.
