Older people are not afraid, panic should not happen again
With the growing number of new Covid-19 cases in Lithuania, people’s fear of developing the disease is overshadowed by anxiety about the future. More specifically, due to the inconvenience that the restrictions could cause if the spread of the new virus continued to increase.
These conclusions can be drawn by summarizing the views of the people interviewed on the streets of Kaunas. It is true that respondents of different ages pointed out the problems that were relevant to them, they mentioned the inconveniences that they had already encountered during quarantine.
“I’m not afraid of anything. I buried my husband less than a month ago, so life is over for me. And everything will be as God will give it,” said a 73-year-old Kaunas resident near Laisvės alley near the Kaunas municipality.
The elder, who handles inheritance documents, hinted that everything is extremely slow due to the threat of the virus due to changes in the working procedures of state institutions. It is said that in the past, formalities were completed incomparably faster.
“It will kill me faster than that virus,” ironically the respectable old woman.
The retiree who married his pet anxiously mentioned the surprising daily information about the number of infected, but did not panic.
“Of course there is some anxiety, no one knows how things will be here. But we went through the quarantine, that panic when people bought canned food and cereals in droves. Was it necessary to do so? There was no shortage of food, they were in every store and there was something for everyone. As a result, he’s a bit calmer, panic as it should be shouldn’t happen again, ”said the 67-year-old interviewer.
When asked if they belonged to a risk group and were not afraid of being infected with the new virus, Kaunas said they lived quite passively, so the chances of getting infected were not very high.
“I am already retired, I no longer work, I can get infected unless it is from relatives. But there are few of them left here, children abroad,” said the Kaunas resident.
Young people are not afraid of anything, but they do not want to go back to distance education
What are the moods of Kaunas youth, schoolchildren and students? What they find most frightening is that as the number of diseases increases, they may have to return to distance education. This was mentioned by all the interlocutors gathered in Laisvės Alley.
“There is a risk group and there are younger people. I belong to a younger one, so I was not so afraid. I have to worry more about my family, relatives, who belong to this risk group, ”said the 17-year-old student.
According to the interlocutor, in daily life he would be very reluctant to return to distance education due to the increasing number of diseases.
“I really don’t like this because there is a lack of live teaching,” said the student.
His partner said that he was not afraid of anything, but mentioned that he really did not want to go back to distance education.
“It just came to our attention then. It’s not good at all,” said the teenager.
“If there is distance learning, it won’t do anything. Of course, it causes some inconvenience: you seem to get stuck, you don’t want to study, you lack motivation,” said an aged student from Kaunas.
Distance learning also intimidates parents of students
It seems that the prospect of a new virus returning to distance learning in educational institutions is not particularly fascinating not only for schoolchildren or students, but also for Kaunas residents raising school-age children.
“During the quarantine I experienced what distance learning means and I really don’t want it to happen again. At least the children from the lower classes could be taught in schools, because it is difficult for them to do it at home, and the parents also suffer, ”said the Kaunas resident, who is raising two primary school children.
The man mentioned that he worked from home during the quarantine, preparing projects for the interior installation of buildings, so the presence of two children nearby, especially when they had to explain tasks on a regular basis, tired him considerably.
“Direct work also suffers. I also had to do it late at night, at night, when the family fell asleep. I really don’t want to have to go back to those conditions again,” said the Kaunas resident.
A woman who worked as a financier supported this view. In my opinion, distance learning could only be introduced by isolating one or more classes when an infection is detected. According to her, universal distance education poses great difficulties for parents because they not only need to take care of their offspring but also work.
“Parents need to do their job and children need to socialize. Clearly, they will. All that remains is to protect yourself and your family, take care of your loved ones,” said the Kaunas resident.
More fear of autumn diseases.
A Kaunas woman who worked in a major pharmacy chain, when asked about the consequences of the increasing morbidity of Covid-19, drew attention to the threatening trend in her opinion.
“I work in a pharmacy and I see what diseases are beginning to increase. Now people have already started sneezing, increasing cold symptoms. Experience says that such diseases will only increase in the future. It is not surprising, it is typical of each fall. But in the current situation, these symptoms can mean something completely different, ”said the interviewed pharmacist.
According to the interlocutor, with cold weather and increased colds, upper respiratory tract infections, the symptoms of these conditions are similar to those seen with Covid-19 infection.
“Are doctors properly prepared to determine what a person is suffering, if it is Covid-19 or not? Because there will only be more people like that. Of course, it is not much fun at work when you have to communicate with people who have symptoms of cold ”, commented the pharmacist.
The situation in foreign countries is also worrying
The ever-changing epidemiological situation can confuse work plans as needed. It was said to spell two middle-aged men.
They said that after three weeks they have to go to one of the Scandinavian countries to install and adjust the equipment in the factory under reconstruction. However, if they manage to leave, in what conditions they will have to live, what awaits them upon their return, they do not even know.
“There is a serious object, works and planned deadlines. And how things will be, it is difficult to say. We are not alone in this situation, many acquaintances who work on business trips abroad do not know or will leave, how and when they will be able to return next. Because the situation is changing not only in Lithuania, other countries are also introducing all kinds of restrictions, ”Kaunas residents considered.
