When she heard these words, she was confused and wondered what that greeting meant. And the angel said to her: Mary, do not be afraid, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb, and give birth to a son, and you will call his name JESUS. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The LORD God will give him the throne of his father David; and he will reign in the house of Jacob forever, and his dominion will have no end. Mary asked the angel: “What will happen if I don’t know a man?” The angel replied: “The Holy Spirit will descend on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore your son also will be holy, and will be called the Son of God. For example, her cousin Isabel began to have a child in old age, and this month is the sixth that she was considered infertile because there are no things impossible for God ”. Then Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; Let it be to me according to your word. And the angel left. (Pages 1.26-38)
God be with us
This Sunday’s Gospel takes us back nine months. A miracle took place that day, which is, in a sense, even more important than the most anticipated celebration of the year.
The human birth of the Son of God is not marked by special signs. Mary took him for nine months to be born from the Savior. Jesus was not an exceptional child, and his birth was not a great event noticed by all. Everything was very simple and even more: the birth of the Son of God was received with the rejection of the people.
The human birth of the Son of God is not marked by special signs.
In fact, it is a very comforting thought: God has not changed anything in the nature of the person of the coming Jesus, no exceptional measures have been taken. It just grew the way it did with each of us. Each birth and growth is a long process. It takes time, patience and respect. Accelerated growth is always associated with some form of coercion, while El Salvador grew up in the face of daily difficulties, like every baby: without privileges, without acceleration.
When it comes to the mystery of Christmas, we must first talk about life. That life is a young, unknown, undeserved, a province of Galilee without a name, which Nazareth still does not mention in the Bible … And the house that God visited …
Jesus is God who comes to visit us, and we simply must live, but live responsibly, with a careful look at what is happening in and around us, because the message of the Savior’s birth does not resonate somewhere outside, but in our heart. Man, in order to discover God, must do so in his midst, because to
Nobody saw him and he was already with his people.
To be in the world, the Lord chose the usual daily routine of Nazareth. I think it was not a coincidence that the angel greeted Mary with the words: “The Lord is with you”, because it also means the name of the coming Messiah.
“Immanuel is God with us”, this is how the angel tells Joseph the essence of the name of Jesus. It is the name of God that cannot be closed in one place, as King David mentioned in the first mass this Sunday. God is an eternal wanderer who travels together and sleeps with us, spread out next to his tent. You don’t need a palace. The human heart is enough for it.
Together we hear another wonderful message in the gospel: God is necessary for the birth of God. He needs a woman’s womb, he wants a man to agree to receive it. The true greatness of man is not that he can build a dwelling place worthy of gold for God. It is much more magnificent to give yourself away.
God is with us, but together he is invisible. This was the case two thousand years ago when Mary waited for Jesus to be born. Nobody saw him and he was already with his people. It all begins with the saying “yes”, the word that Mary said to God, that every man should pronounce …
