Another NDNT corruption scheme is under investigation, STT reports Tuesday afternoon.
According to pre-trial investigation data, A. Tumalavičienė, responsible for correcting special needs assessments and level of work capacity performed in the Utena territorial branch of the NDNT, allegedly abused his official position and falsified documents.
It is suspected that some people who applied for NDNT in Utena may have been illegally identified as having special needs for continuous care (assistance), and some people were found to have a lower than current (current) level of work ability. The documents on the health status of these people were allegedly falsified, and the NDNT adopted documents on the assessment of special needs and work capacity.
Based on falsified documents, it is suspected that incorrect conclusions were found regarding the determination of special needs for continuous care (assistance) and the level of work capacity that did not meet the established evaluation criteria.
During the pre-trial investigation, STT officials took the documents necessary for the investigation from the NDNT Territorial Division and Nte’s Utena and took other necessary pre-trial investigation actions.
The survey is conducted from winter.
May 20 website lrs.lt The report of the member of the Seimas Agnė Bilotaitė entitled “People pay bribes of 100 to 1000 euros for the determination of disability” was published.
That day, the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission clarified how the transformation of the disability determination system and the work capacity promised by the Ministry of Social Security and Labor a few years ago was taking place.
The Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Commission was also contacted about possible abuses in the Disability and Work Capacity Assessment Service.
On February 26, members of the Anti-Corruption Commission were contacted regarding the information provided by Tadas Mickevičius, Head of the Utena Territorial Division of the Disability and Work Capacity Assessment Service (NDNT), about systemic violations and possible abuses by previous NDNT management and employees.
Taking into account the information provided by T. Mickevičius, the Office of the Attorney General on February 18 granted him the status of rapporteur.
The information provided by T. Mickevičius allows us to assume that the disability and work capacity determination system is not yet transparent enough, deficiencies in internal procedures create conditions of corruption and illegal agreements between doctors and NDNT specialists involved in the process.
The pre-trial investigation is controlled and directed by the Prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Directly named the amounts of bribes, it is true, are different
Henrika Varnienė, director of the Lithuanian Disability Forum, also admitted that the system works in an opaque way: “To have a disability with us, you must go to the hospital, then stay in a sanitarium for a while, and then you already have a disability.”
STT representatives confirmed that residents are often still forced to pay bribes, even in cases where the law owes them disability benefits. The amounts of bribes range from 100 to 1,000 euros, it is said lrs.lt in the report
People who have suffered the possible illegal actions of Utena NDNT employees should contact the STT Panevėžys Board (contact here).
