Other businesses saved businesses
All these businesses support each other: after funeral services, a sad lunch is held in the restaurant, a taxi provides transportation services. Several niches were also saved during the pandemic.
“When all the spices boil in a kettle, the result arrives. These are substitutes, if a problem has occurred. Many companies in Lithuania work in only one area. If I only had hotels, now it would be amen. The pandemic crossed the foundations of catering companies and hotels. Now he has the support of the stores, his turnover during the quarantine has increased ”, says A. Radvila.
All of its companies operate only within the boundaries of the Kaišiadorys district. However, there is no shortage of competition here. The next big player to come will be a serious challenge for retail. According to him, a wide range of products helps to keep the Pasagėlė network in a competitive environment, working with all Lithuanian suppliers as well as large networks.
“It is better to use less, but to manage the current situation. The stores are stable, you know the income, the market. This is probably the only area where we have all the supermarkets: two Norfos, Rimi, Iki and Lidla are already under construction. And they all survive. The answer is that we play with positions of raw materials. Whoever is with the others, we try not to be with us, “says the businessman.
According to A. Radvila, on hot summer weekends, when sales of soft drinks and ice creams increase, the trade is equal to Christmas and New Years.
“They say that it is very difficult to start a business, to find niches. However, the most difficult thing is to preserve and maintain it ”, smiles A. Radvila.
The whole family helps you keep all the businesses. Son Mindaugas is an economist, the main financier of the company, and his daughter Violeta is a lawyer who handles all corporate legal matters.
Worked as a welder
The businessman himself has many specialties: he is a locksmith, a lawyer and a conservation engineer. Before all business, he worked as a welder in a car service. In addition, A. Radvila and the politician are members of the district council elected for a second term.
“When I started working in the service, I dropped out of university, because as the press writes now, when I worked as a welder – 2-3 thousand. Salary in euros, so it really is, if not more. I went through all areas: from assembly, painting, inspection, etc. At that time, working in a gas station was better than a doctor. But the time has come: I saw that the university still has to graduate, I graduated from the university and the law of KSU ” , says A. Radvila.
The interviewee recalls that starting the business itself was the best moment: “Then there was a green light for the business, for 10 years no one checked, no one asked for any document, although we certainly collected it and handled everything. The business was in very good condition. We continue to open two wooden kiosks every year until 10 of them appeared, and then they became bricks. “
Profits hurt workers
Previously, a taxi company founded by a businessman was the only one that provided this type of service in the city, and then other competitors emerged. The pandemic also caused difficulties. Instead of 4 cars and drivers, there were only 2 left.
“It just came to our knowledge then. I can say with certainty that it is about downtime, subsidies, social guarantees,” he assures.
A. Radvila has 75 employees in various companies. Finding them, as he says, is always difficult, but especially at this time.
“What is happening in Lithuania now is very complicated. The worst thing is that people, when they receive their salary, sign a statement to resign. The reason is simple: the directors of some institutions do not know that 9 months. Allocation per capita. Before it was 3 months, then it was 6, now it is 9. A person receives more than 1000 euros, he says that during the summer he is going to build a house for his 9-month-old son. He will get all the guarantees, why not take advantage of it ? I sincerely say that I would do the same for him. “It is a possibility, there are no violations, you are calmly using what the laws of today offer,” he says.
The employer told how to select employees.
“Two people, both candidates, want a job penalty fee, communicative, insightful, thinking about how to put them to the test. I say go to Kaunas bases or somewhere else and buy me a variety of fruits and vegetables. When one comes back, he says – I bought a box of bananas, cucumbers – here, I paid so much, here – a check.
Another says: I brought a box of bananas, cucumbers, tomatoes, but if I had bought two boxes of cucumbers, I would have made a discount, if the bananas, 4 boxes, I would do such a promotion, if the total amount exceeds 100 euros. , I would have received 20 percent. discount. Which one will I hire? Does a person come to work and only stay for work hours, or do they achieve a result while working?
Sometimes it is said that the employer is not motivated, but every employer is interested in motivating. However, if employees come to work just to pass the time … In the end, the vein is not that everyone is a salesperson or a waiter, you cannot blame one person, ”says A. Radvila.
