We share the portal 15 minutes The journalist had a conversation with Sergeant Vidas Stašaitis, a public relations specialist from the Kęstutis Battalion, a few days ago, and Simona herself, who was in the Taurag hospital hospital at the time.
Colleague: The message was like thunder from a clear sky
Simona de Šilutė has always been a physically and psychologically strong and active woman. She was raising a four-year-old daughter by herself and recently decided to enlist in voluntary military service for life changes and new challenges. Unfortunately, the soldier was unable to take the oath in this way: the sudden onset of severe abdominal pain revealed an unexpected message: Her digestive system is being destroyed by advanced end-stage cancer.
“Cancer affects us all, no matter who you are: daughter, mother, sister, friend, coworker, doctor or patient,” Jennifer Aniston said. Let us contribute and help the NPPKT soldier of the 6th edition of the Kęstutis Battalion, the ordinary temporary junior Simona Rasiukevičienė, in the face of a threatening illness. Simona is raising alone a 4-year-old daughter, Dominika, and she is battling a serious oncological disease ”, invited the Kęstutis Battalion on their Facebook account.
It was when writing this text that we wanted to invite the portal to respond as well 15 minutes readers.
According to Sergeant Vidas Stašaitis, a public relations specialist from the Kęstutis Battalion who knew Simon well and even encouraged her to become a volunteer, the 33-year-old wanted strong changes and new challenges in her life, so she decided to leave her mother to care for his daughter and spend nine months in compulsory military service.

However, an illness that struck her like a thunderstorm prevented her from taking the oath: Simona had been in the military for only a couple of weeks and was rushed straight to the hospital.
“When one day I saw that they were not in line, I visited her at the barracks. She is comforted because she likes everything here very much, but cannot enjoy full breasts because she suffers from severe abdominal pain. Also, before coming to the military, she mentioned that she had some of those digestive problems, so she didn’t feel quite right, but she didn’t actually think the problems could be that bad. And I couldn’t believe it when I found out about her diagnosis. After all, you are a young, physically active and healthy person. We were all shocked, “said V. Stašaitis.
The interlocutor organizes various marches in civil life, in which Simona also participated. According to her, walking 50 km a day meant nothing to a woman. When he had to meet her at the gym, he also saw how strong and trained her body was, even though the woman was eating vegetarian. The woman really took care of both her diet and her general well-being, she lived an active life, she had no harmful habits. As a result, it was even more painful for her loved ones to hear that she was the one who had chosen cancer.
Proud of your decision
In recent years, Simona has made her hobby of baking excellent vegan cakes a source of livelihood, but she was very proud of her decision to change her lifestyle to do mandatory military service for 9 months.

“Now is the time to take off my apron because I am going to change it for a less colorful but also beautiful outfit.
9 months … There is enough time for a new life to form in a woman’s womb. No, my belly won’t grow, I’m still growing. People know very well how I have to live, what I have to do and what not. “How vegan you should drink less coffee! As a wife, you must not walk at night and count the stars. When following the path of self-education, you should be more calm and not raise your voice! As a woman, you shouldn’t lift weights and build muscles! “
And I’ll still stay true to myself. I will be angry, I will fight, I will be jealous, I will love, I will move on and maybe I will fall, but I will get up, shake my hair and move on. Dreams do not have an expiration date, so it is never too late to start realizing them ”, wrote a woman about her new stage in her life on a social network.
Simona did not shy away from expressing her patriotic feelings: “I’m glad I was born in Lithuania! I love my land and the people, everyone, including the little kids and the eternal villain, who are always unhappy with high prices and power. After all, with bent eyebrows and puffy lips, they are as beautiful and necessary as cherries on a cake. “
Symptoms were not given too much importance
Simona’s voice speaking to her on the phone from Tauragė Hospital was so weak that it was difficult to hear her slow words.
Never before has a woman who has not complained about her health felt that something was wrong for the first time, about half a year ago. I started to feel weak. She herself did not give too much importance to this feeling, she thought that low blood pressure was the culprit and blood tests showed a lack of iron. It was logical, after all, she did not eat meat. The iron course for several months restored her previous well-being, so Simona made bold plans for the future.
The iron course for several months restored her former well-being, so Simona made bold plans for the future.
However, as a volunteer colleague mentioned, just before arriving at the battalion, he felt indigestion, began to scratch his belly strongly, but related these last symptoms to diet, he thought he had eaten foods that did not suit him.
Once, the colic was so severe that it required medical help, but the latter received only a prescription for drugs to improve digestion. Simona hoped her health would improve soon, but the pain didn’t stop and her belly began to swell so much that she heard cautious questions about whether she was pregnant.
He fought for his life and the future of his daughter
Finally, after another attack, Simona was transferred directly from the battalion to the hospital, first one, then another.
The woman had undergone several surgeries, and part of her intestines was cut and the gastrostomy was removed through her abdomen. The doctors, seeing what the cancer had done to her abdominal organs, were very surprised that for so long Simona felt healthy and led an active life: the cancer that started in the stomach covered and devastated most of the intestine and it also spread to the ovaries.
During the phone conversation, the woman admitted that she felt very weak: she constantly suffered from nausea, lost a lot of weight, could not eat or drink herself, so she was fed artificially. So, along with the doctors supervising her, she struggled to survive. The main goal of her last treatment was to restore her blood levels and begin treating her cancer.
Although Simona suffered terrible physical suffering, she was determined to survive because she knew how much she needed her daughter. It was she who gave Simon the strength to start his fight anew every day.
Both Simona’s treatment and her daughter’s support required financial assistance. Before leaving, Simona said that she would like all the money donated by the benefactors to stay with her young daughter after her death. Here’s how to help a family in distress:
