According to the Social Democrats, the postponement of decisions testifies that the government is not in control of the situation and is reluctant to take responsibility, and questions also arise about how to appease big business.
In this way, the representatives of the faction react to the statements of Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė that there are no specific decisions on the relaxation of the quarantine and it is not clear when they will come into force.
According to Algirdas Sysas, the largest of the Social Democratic Party faction in the Seimas, many people, especially small and family businesses, had unreasonable expectations that decisions would soon be made on the relaxation of the quarantine.
“It just came to our attention then. The Prime Minister did not answer the most important question about when there will finally be concrete solutions. He spoke of trials that yes, people have the right to go to court, but everyone is waiting for a concrete answer to the he asks when they will be able to start working. The stretching of the rubber, when it is explained that decisions will be made maybe on Monday or maybe later, only increases the tension in society “, says A. Sysas.
At the time, Rasa Budbergytė, a member of the Social Democratic Party faction, emphasized that the government had not yet clearly responded to the basis on which large retail chains were allowed to work during the quarantine, while small businesses were closed.
“The situation of large and small companies during the quarantine is uneven. The large ones also receive more state support, some of them are authorized to operate, while the small ones, although they can meet all security requirements, are closed. The Prime Minister, when the big networks advertise inviting to buy “food and putty”, evaluated this only from an ethical point of view. But all that is happening is flattering big business and unequal conditions to operate, and there is no clear position from the government. All of this shows powerlessness, ”says R. Budbergytė.
Social Democrats have proposed easing quarantine restrictions in municipalities where the number of infections is extremely low or non-existent.
The Social Democrats are also calling on the government to allow small family businesses and beauty service providers to resume operations if they meet all sanitary requirements.
