Slušnys: If people don’t listen, I have no doubt that we will take an even more drastic step

Experts say we can expect the results of the new pandemic management measures in two to three weeks. However, it does not rule out that even stricter restrictions may be necessary, including the introduction of a curfew.

“To declare a state of emergency, it is necessary to assess whether we are really in a war situation like this, or if the health system is really in total collapse. We must bear in mind that here we are today protecting the health system, doctors who no longer lift burdens or cannot perform their functions due to certain peculiarities of the work. If people, due to the fact that the quarantine is currently being announced, the stricter measures have been announced, the stores are closed, but they will try to move, migrate and carry the virus all over Lithuania in some way, I have no doubt that that we will contact for such a step. Such considerations (about emergency – self-past.) Exist, but they are extremely unpleasant.

An appeal from all of us to all Lithuanian citizens: in fact, each of you is the conscious person to understand that if you are not directly affected by the virus, if he has not really visited you, then know that when you visit, you really you will not enjoy it “, – about the restrictions in the program Delphi morning Linas Slušnys, member of the Seimas Health Affairs Committee, spoke.

When to expect a result?

The MP L. Slušnys assured that until St. It would not be worth waiting for the results of the strict quarantine conditions for Christmas and New Year. “When you announce certain measures, they start to move in about two weeks and you start to see the numbers go down,” he said.

L. Slušnis was also supported by Rolanda Lingienė, Director of the Vilnius Department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC). According to R. Lingienė, the management measures adopted on Sunday will definitely take effect, because they are logical.

“It is not unnecessarily a decision to do such a long quarantine, because the infection does not subside that quickly. In fact, we could only see some change for the better in about three weeks. Some people are already infected and do not know it, some people who are infected but they still don’t know it, they are already infected and others. It takes at least three weeks for that circle to turn around and start to shrink, “he explained.

Forces to rescue the health system

L. Slušnys, member of the Committee on Health Affairs, pointed out that there is a shortage of places in resuscitation. At the same time, for one year, all forces for the treatment of COVID-19, the health system and treatment facilities can no longer provide scheduled services. Therefore, it is necessary to save the entire health system and the people who work in it.

“When we expand the number of beds for COVID patients, we cannot stop accepting them, because most are not necessarily in resuscitation, but they need very intensive and serious help, we find ourselves in a situation in which we withdraw all the (medical services) provided . A Vilnius hospital has already become just a fighting club. Little by little, other supports are already filling up with COVID patients. So we find ourselves in a situation where we don’t even have a place to put them. I am not talking about patients receiving services. (…)

A situation where COVID patients are occupying the entire healthcare system and unable to provide services to anyone else, we are getting closer to that red line. If that red line comes along, we will have to take those measures to protect people and protect the country from a really big disaster, ”said L. Slušnys.

The virus has already spread through society

NVSC representative R. Lingienė noted that the virus is already widespread throughout society, so the probability of infection is everywhere. The scale of the spread is evidenced by the fact that many people do not know where they were infected and the age structure of disease is getting younger.

“Yesterday decisions were made to protect the places where the virus is most prevalent. It is precisely in families, as well as in the workplace, that constitutes a large percentage. In fact, it is really possible to protect yourself by staying at home, choosing to work. remotely whenever possible, and that’s what we need to do now. Child leave, followed by distance learning, means that family members will stay home and the chain of virus transmission will be interrupted, because if someone becomes infected, they will be transferred to another place. It will no longer be brought from workplaces, it will no longer be brought from educational institutions and it will no longer be brought to them. We protect it that way, “he said.

R. Lingienė emphasized that it should not be assumed that it is impossible to get infected in the field. Therefore, he asked for more remote and less visited places to go with the family.
