The Šiauliai Basketball Club will end the year with a new director. The club’s shareholders approved the request of Mindaugas Stankevičius, who held this position, to terminate the contract and appointed Donatas Slaninas as the new manager.
Fines are being issued this season
After finishing her career as a professional basketball player in Italy, Slanina returned to Šiauliai, where she worked as the director of the “Saulė” basketball academy, later leading the “Rūta” women’s team. After that, he moved back to Italy, where he worked as an assistant coach at the Grissin Bon club (now UnaHotels) in Emilia-Romagna, where he ended his career as a basketball player.
He returned to his hometown in 2003. In a couple of years, the European champion has helped improve the most talented children in the region at the Šiauliai Sports Gymnasium and Basketball Academy.
According to Artūras Nacickas, president of the club’s board of directors, the experience and vision of the new director will help the club achieve its goals.
“A true basketball player has been appointed director of the club. Donatas himself was a first level player, then he worked as a coach, so he has a great knowledge of the sports side of basketball, as well as managerial experience in sports organizations, She has led our city academy and the women’s basketball team. We have trusted her vision of the club and hope that our club will take a big step forward.
At the same time, we thank Mindaugas for their work. We do not say goodbye to him, from now on he will be responsible for projects at the club, in addition to working with sponsors ”, Nacickas spoke about the changes in the club.
For her part, Slanina, who will take up her new role on Friday, thanked the stakeholders for their trust and acknowledged that she looked forward to a lot of hard work.
“This position will be a real challenge for me, but a very interesting challenge. It was certainly not an easy decision, as I will have to give up some of the youth basketball activities that have been done so far, which are very close and favorite for me, and a lot of work has been done on them. But it is driven by the desire for all of our city’s basketball to advance, from beginners to professionals, to show good results so that young people have something to align with and the teams representing our city delight the city community. .
Thank you to the club members and leaders for your trust. There are great challenges ahead, which we will try to overcome by working hard, ”said the new club director Slanina.
