And Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said that Raseiniai may also have to apply the Nemenčinė variant, that is, shut them down completely.

The quarantine regime in Raseiniai will be introduced from midnight on Friday and will last until the end of October 23.

Health Minister Aurelius Veryga said a little earlier that the reluctance of the population to check for coronavirus is also worrying, despite the fact that it has stabilized, but the number of new infections is high. According to him, there is a risk that the infection will spread to other parts of Lithuania, and the stricter restrictions are more effective in improving the situation in the short term.

In addition to the security measures already applied by the Raseiniai district municipality so far, that is, the obligation to wear masks everywhere, teleworking and learning and others, it is planned to limit the working hours of cafes in the shops until midnight. It is also recommended to cancel masses in churches.

At the government meeting, the Prime Minister mentioned that if the investigation of the coronavirus in the Raseiniai district continues to be slow, the municipality may be closed. Something similar happened with Neminčienė in the spring, when the coronavirus was very widespread here.

“If we see that the specialists of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), doctors, epidemiologists will say that the detection is slow, there is no way to determine if people are infected, even when they refer to the checkpoints, then there is no other way to make Nemenčinė. option ”, said S. Skvernelis after the Government meeting.

“I hope such steps are not necessary, the mayor of the municipality and the administration are actively cooperating. I invite residents to verify. There’s really no need to worry if those numbers go up a bit. But it is important for us to know the real situation ”, emphasized the Prime Minister.

S. Skvernelis hinted that if the situation in Raseiniai improves, the quarantine can be revoked sooner.

When asked if the quarantine regime could be introduced in other municipalities in the near future, for example in Radviliškis, where daily morbidity rates are increasing, the Head of Government replied: “The situation in Radviliškis is slightly better. We also see slightly different absolute numbers, much smaller. We see a change in the situation, a stabilization. Today we are not considering other municipalities. So far, only Raseiniai remains, and elsewhere, at least from today’s point of view, such decisions should not be made. “

At the government meeting, the Prime Minister said that enough disinformation is spreading in Raseiniai.

“We see that the so-called conspiracy theories are spreading a lot both on social networks and in society about the fact that there is no virus, there is no need to check, it is not dangerous, it does not affect me. In Raseiniai this is evident, in other municipalities there was perhaps less time when a checkpoint was established and referrals were sent for inspections, and a much smaller percentage of the population was inspected than elsewhere. This is a problem and needs to be addressed. But it must be approached with arguments, with persuasion, ”said S. Skvernelis.
