Skvernel was not included in the shadow government: it was my polite refusal

“Nothing has happened, I am grateful for the suggestions that have been made and the decisions that have been made in the past. In this situation, I think it is the right decision that the party chairman should hold a real post and be prime minister. I think now other people who may have had less workload for four years can remain in that shadow government, “S. Skvernelis told reporters after the shadow government presented to the Seimas by the peasants.

According to him, not participating in the activities of the informal Cabinet of Ministers was his personal decision.
“It was a polite refusal with some arguments. I think this is understandable, I hope that the comrades of the faction and the party also understand my step, “said the former prime minister.

According to S. Skvernel, he would see the shadow government made up of members of opposition factions.

“I think maybe a little more general. I think it was necessary to try to form a coalition government of opposition factions, because if we talk about real steps and actions, we probably fully understand that it will probably not be the case in Lithuania that a party forms government, it is more a question of coalitions,

In his opinion, the joint government in the shadow of the opposition would be a good step, “highlighting communions with the opposition factions and parties, both with the Social Democrats and with the Labor Party.”

“Everything is normal, right now other people have the opportunity to express themselves, for whom the four-year regimen was a little easier,” Skvernell said.

According to the politician, he is satisfied with the work of the National Security and Defense Committee.

“I am not unconditionally committed to being something at all times, be it real or dark (prime – aut.p.), it is just a debate. Opinions sometimes differ, sometimes they overlap,” continued S. Skvernelis.

He also noted that it was difficult for the opposition to agree.

“I really believe that the opposition will not agree on everything, but without common strategic directions, this will facilitate the work of the ruling majority,” said S. Skvernelis.

When asked how he envisions his future role in the group, the politician said he was ready to actively work in parliament.

“I will register the bills in the spring session, I am a member of the faction, I will do the work I choose, I will participate in the Seimas elections and I will become a member of the Seimas,” said S. Skvernelis.

Asked whether to assume the role of leader of the opposition, Skvernel replied that it would be difficult to reach an agreement in the opposition.

“It just came to our notice then. After this step, it will probably be even more difficult to do, because there are enough differences. Let’s not forget one essential thing yet, that both the Social Democrats, the Labor Party and the Peasant Party are essentially competitors. by the same voter. There may be fears from other smaller opposition factions that they will be less visible or will be overshadowed, “said the MP.

“If there are movements and the desire to have a common and stronger united action of the opposition, I will take part. We will see how it will be there,” said S. Skvernelis.

Skvernel: I don’t think the government will ask for help from the shadow cabinet

Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the party appointed as shadow prime minister of the informal peasant government, expected Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė’s cabinet of ministers to cooperate with the shadow government of LVŽS and seek advice.

However, Skvernel is skeptical of this.

“It just came to our notice then. The call of the Royal Government to help the government in the shadow of the opposition, however strong, demanding or sensible it may be, would show in part the incapacity and weakness of the Royal Government.” … It would be a It’s silly not to accept sensible offers, but I don’t think it’s necessary to ask for help, “said S. Skvernelis.

He reminded R. Karbauskis that there is no conflict on this issue with the party leadership and the faction.

When asked how he evaluated the composition of the shadow government, S. Skvernelis said it was the self-determination of the party.

“If the situation were different, I would probably think of different people, but since the cabinet is approved by the party council, not the faction, the party has apparently chosen the strongest and best people who will be in those positions and, if necessary, become shadow ministers, “Skvernelis said.

Karbauskis: The decision to name me shadow shadow is logical

As R. Karbauskis said, the shadow government program is an alternative to the policies followed by the rulers.

He confirmed that S. Skvernelis had a different idea of forming a shadow Cabinet of Ministers.

“Skvernelis supported the option for the shadow government to be based more on a coalition, which is completely impossible at this time,” Karbauskis said.

According to him, this is not possible due to the different opinions of the opposition factions, and according to R. Karbauskis, the Social Democrats are not yet ready for that, because they do not have a permanent president.

The LVŽS leader pointed out that there is no conflict with S. Skvernelis.

“I believe and hope that their efforts remain focused on uniting the opposition, which is very difficult in this Seimas, however regrettable it is.” Perhaps because the factions are small, perhaps because they do not decide their place in the political world, our initiative to unite the opposition has not yet yielded any results, ”said R. Karbauskis after the presentation of the shadow government.

According to the politician, his current appointment as shadow prime minister of the LVŽS should not be linked to the party’s actual plans for the future.

“If we talk about the decision of the party council to appoint me as shadow prime minister, it is logical that I am the party president. In this situation, we all understand that this is not the real government,” said R. Karbauskis, noting that the informal peasant government is willing to cooperate.
