“If we look objectively, the strict quarantine measures no longer give the result we expected, but the opposite result,” S. Skvernelis told LRT radio on Wednesday.

“We see how our businesses barely survive or not, whether it is a small or large business, we see the psychological state of people as they are, we see the cultural sector, we see the sports sector. It should be clear that these measures did not produce the expected results, ”he emphasized.

Therefore, the Prime Minister is convinced that the Government should focus on other priority measures at this time. S. Skvernel points out that to control the coronavirus pandemic it is very important to carry out a targeted vaccination and increase the scope of testing, which has fallen “to incomprehensible lows.”

“Now we have to test, test, test. Remember this motto, which was, more now there are other options, and other tests are, and vaccinated on purpose. (…) we see that there is a real shortage of vaccines, we see what the situation is, but that targeted vaccination may be in those darkest spots, it also gives an additional result, ”said S. Skvernelis.

“Right now we have to focus on other priorities and get vaccinated, in addition to knowing very precisely how many people are sick, and that again requires the same detection range as before, that is, 15,000 to 17,000. per day, ”he added.

ELTA recalls that Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė reported on Tuesday that two cases of the South African strain of the coronavirus have been identified in Lithuania. Therefore, according to the Prime Minister, in response to this information, it may be necessary to consider some tightening of the quarantine.
