“It just came to our knowledge then (due to curfew – passed aut.) we do not consider. This should be the decision of the Seimas. Only by introducing a state of emergency would it be possible to speak of a so-called curfew. But with the state of emergency, a completely different legal regime comes into force, restricting civil and political rights and freedoms. Most likely this is already a decision of the Seimas. If such decisions were made, it would be implemented by the new government, “S. Skvernelis told reporters on Wednesday.

However, he acknowledged that quarantine restrictions are possible on the government’s agenda.

Hopefully, those figures this week should show a trend as to whether the quarantine measures have yielded clear long-term results. Otherwise, we will have to think, not to mention the introduction of the curfew, as additional measures to reduce our mobility, maintain social distance and reduce our communication and visits to public places. These topics are on the agenda, but we hope they don’t need to be presented, “said S. Skvernelis.

A. Veryga: The quarantine is not working as much as we would like

The interim health minister was reluctant to accept that the quarantine was not working, but did not rule out the possibility of stricter measures.

“Quarantine may not work as much as we would like, but I wouldn’t dare say it doesn’t work at all. We have growth, but it is no longer exponential. When such a high number of people are infected, as a maximum we must comply at least with the requirements that are established.

Obviously, this has not been the case in all cases. We will see that the figures will continue to increase this week, but I will not rule out that the Government makes additional decisions.

And regarding the curfew, a state of emergency is needed. It should be announced by the Seimas. If you consider that these expert proposals are sufficient, you can decide ”, he commented.

Veryga has already stressed that this week will be critical and will show where progress is being made in the new restrictions.

Extended quarantine

On Wednesday, the cabinet decided to extend the quarantine until December 18. According to Aurelijus Veryga, such a decision has been made because the epidemiological situation in Lithuania remains difficult.

The duration of the quarantine regime is from 2020. November 7 00:00 until December 17. 24:00 Previously, the quarantine was scheduled to end on November 30.

“The epidemiological situation continues to be difficult. Although we are seeing a slowdown in the growth of the number of cases, we have a really difficult situation. We are proposing to extend the quarantine regime,” A. Veryga said at the government meeting.
