“I think we have to wait patiently for those three weeks and I have no doubt that the result will be. We really need to stabilize this exponential increase so that it no longer exists, to stabilize the situation in health institutions, ”S. Skvernelis told reporters gathered at Seimas.

According to him, if the results improve after three weeks, the government will gradually relax the restrictions and bans.

“If there is no result, the only way is to ‘tighten the screws’, but that would probably be the most difficult and not a very good way,” the prime minister said.

According to S. Skvernel, if the measures currently adopted do not work, new restrictions will have to be introduced, which would reduce the number of social contacts. Still, the prime minister believes that it would cause extremely serious economic and psychological harm to society.

“I think again, what our doctors, government experts say, that those states that were the first to go into quarantine, the result is achieved quickly enough. I hope that Lithuania is no exception and we achieve that result, “said S. Skvernelis.

According to the prime minister, while there are responsible authorities who will oversee compliance with quarantine requirements, the people themselves must be held accountable first and foremost.

“If we try to fool ourselves, wear a mask and keep our distance just because the government needs it here, there will be nothing here. We will have very tragic consequences. You just need to trust the scientists, the doctors who provide those recommendations that are validated. and tested. <...> Everything here depends on us. Absolutely, “said S. Skvernelis.

The head of government assured that the introduction of the curfew would require the declaration of a state of emergency in the country. S. Skvernelis assured that he does not currently see any basis for such actions, but these decisions will already be in the hands of the new Seimas.
