Skvernel denies rumors of quarantine announced in October

According to the Prime Minister, if necessary, localized quarantines could be announced in Lithuania, but it is not necessary yet.

“On October 16 I also heard that the quarantine would be announced. This is completely untrue. We are not talking about any term at all. The announcement of the quarantine conditions is linked to very clear indicators, “Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis told reporters on Wednesday.

When to post the quarantine

According to him, the quarantine could be announced after seeing alerts in the health system.

“If we see that our healthcare system is ‘overheating’, that those free, prepared hospital beds for Covid-19 patients are filling up, that our resuscitation is filling up, then those numbers would be essential. Such conditions would allow for the introduction of quarantine. But its scope may vary. Today we have no such signs, “said the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, according to S. Skvernelis, the need for quarantine would be indicated by the fact that in Lithuania there are no longer isolated outbreaks of Covid-19, and the virus has spread throughout the country, as well as the traceability of infections already it’s not possible.

But today we can only talk about recommendations. If necessary, we could consider introducing local quarantine by contacting the municipality with the Ministry of Health. Without him today, he is not, ”said S. Skvernelis.

However, S. Skvernel emphasized that the quarantine, if the government sees such a need, would be introduced despite this year’s elections.

“If the state needs such decisions to protect your life, your health interests, protect our country’s economy, the government will make those decisions, regardless of any circumstance related to the polar battalions,” the prime minister added.

115 new cases

Of the 115 new coronavirus cases, 55 were recorded in Kaunas County, mostly related to the outbreak at the Kaunas State Musical Theater, the National Center for Public Health reported Wednesday.

There were also 22 cases in Vilnius, 19 in Šiauliai, six in Telšiai and Klaipėda, four in Panevėžys, two in Alytus and one in Marijampolė counties.

After contact with patients, according to epidemiologists, 84 people became infected, of which 63 cases were associated with outbreaks.
