The country’s ski resorts are asking the government to allow them to resume operations, in exchange for a commitment to limit customer flows and meet extremely strict safety requirements.

The Association of Ski Centers, which brings together institutions in the districts of Vilnius, Anykščiai, Ignalina, Klaipėda, Plungė and Šilalė, announced on Monday that it had submitted a request to the government to “consider lifting restrictions on activities of ski resorts ski centers on an emergency basis “.

According to the association, it is not difficult to see from public space that with more snow in recent days, people are gathering en masse to ski in public places, parks, on hills, and it is difficult to guarantee a safe environment to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“At that time, outdoor ski resorts that could provide all the necessary security measures to prevent the spread of the virus could not operate due to government restrictions. Alpine skiing is currently allowed in the park, cycling, cross-country skiing, etc. it is an individual sport, during which there is no physical or close contact. Therefore, it is necessary to decide on the resumption of the activities of the ski centers as a matter of urgency ”, underlines the association.

The request emphasizes that in neighboring countries and other foreign countries, the ski resorts currently operate applying advance reservations and limiting the number of clients; such measures should also be followed in Lithuania.

The ski resorts promise to admit only customers who have pre-registered for a specific time, only two tickets would be allowed per booking and the maximum ski time itself would last no more than two hours. A skier is promised an area of 100-150 square meters, a minimum distance of three to five meters between skiers and more than ten meters between the lifts. Ski equipment would also not be rented and tickets would be sold through the box from outside or at the boxes outside.

As before, everyone would have to wear face masks, and the rapes would be recorded with video cameras, and those who did not follow the rules would be removed from the courts immediately.

The Ministry of Health has promised BNS in the near future to evaluate the proposal of the centers and give a response.

The speech to the Government also emphasizes that the country’s ski centers do not have closed ski lifts, here, unlike ski resorts abroad, people come for a short time in their cars, cafes and hotels do not work.

“Countries that have been banned in the past are preparing to resume it. This confirms that the activities of the ski resorts do not contribute to the spread of the virus. On the contrary, the activities of the ski centers help people to do not choose in uncontrolled and inappropriate public places and contribute strongly to the need for physical activity, which is currently very necessary for all people ”, says the association.

Ski resorts note that due to the weather conditions in Lithuania, they can operate very briefly and use the income received throughout the calendar year to maintain staff, infrastructure, taxes, etc.

“The renewal of the activities of the ski centers would contribute to the reduction of the financial difficulties of the ski centers and the reduction of the state financial support to the ski centers”, says the letter of the association.

To control the coronavirus, the quarantine regime introduced in early November was tightened in mid-December and extended until January 31. It closed many shops, sports and leisure venues, restricted the movement of people between municipalities and meetings both at home and in public places.
