Six Maxima employees diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in different cities in Lithuania

“As the COVID-19 infection spreads ever more rapidly in the country in recent weeks, we have been recording more cases among Maxima employees. We are pleased to have not received any reports of a confirmed COVID-19 case on Saturday. Sadly, a coronavirus was detected in six Maxima employees yesterday. They are treated at home. Employees who had potentially close contact with COVID-19 infected colleagues self-isolate themselves.

Store facilities and other units where coronavirus-infected workers worked were also fully cleaned and disinfected internally. We are consulting with the National Center for Public Health and taking all recommended preventive actions that would help prevent the spread of COVID-19 diseases, ”says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Communication and Image Department of the Maxima retail chain.

Three more employees of the food production workshop in Vilnius have been diagnosed with coronavirus. As more COVID-19 cases have been reported at this Maxima unit, staff are testing COVID-19 and only those who have tested negative for coronavirus are working. Most of the workers have already been screened and have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection. During the epidemiological diagnosis, four workers were identified who may have been in contact with colleagues infected with coronavirus, but who have been isolated in the past.

Maxima X stores infected with coronavirus located in Šiauliai, Aido str. 18А, the employee last visited her workplace more than a week ago, on October 21. For COVID-19, you were tested on October 30. He had no close contact with clients or other colleagues.

In Marijampolė, the employee who fell ill in the COVID-19 food production workshop was at work for the last time last week, on October 24. He underwent a COVID-19 test on October 31. A colleague who may have been in contact with an infected COVID-19 was isolated.

The COVID-19 infection was also detected in another employee in Joniškis, where more cases were recorded. Maxima XX store in Joniškis, Upytės str. 19, additional measures have been introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 since last week. Store opening hours are shortened, the flow of buyers is more strictly limited. All employees are prophylactically tested for COVID-19 and only those employees who have tested negative for COVID-19 work and serve customers. In order to reduce the flow of customers, this store temporarily does not provide public services and ticketing services.

Maxima stores and other locations where COVID-19 staff were ill have been completely disinfected. “Today we meet extremely strict hygiene requirements: shopping carts, baskets and other miscellaneous surfaces are periodically disinfected, and fresh air circulation is increased for store ventilation. Employees are informed of additional recommendations to avoid direct contact with each other and to maintain a safe distance. We also encourage our employees to test for COVID-19 for prevention purposes in all municipalities that only organize such tests, “says E. Dapkienė.

Currently, the flow of shoppers entering the stores is limited in Lithuania. Shoppers are asked to keep a safe distance of 2 meters in stores, not to forget to wear protective masks, disinfect their hands and wear free disposable gloves, which can be found at the entrance. All Maxima stores have free access to a protective mask. Free face masks will be distributed until November 11.

A total of 68 Maxima employees have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, of whom 25 have fully recovered and returned to work. To date, 1,081 employees of the Maxima retail chain have been investigated for COVID-19. Currently, 56 employee test responses are still pending.
