“Starting tomorrow, children who have difficulties learning at home through distance learning will be able to study safely at school,” J. Šiugždinienė told reporters on Wednesday.

Decisions will be made by municipalities

Children will be able to return to school on Thursday. However, the list of children returning according to a special algorithm will have to be compiled by the child welfare commissions of schools.

“It starts here with the teacher, the classroom teacher. The Child Welfare Commission will play an important role here, deciding whether one or the other child needs help when they need it, or helping at home, perhaps participating in programs, providing an Internet connection, and perhaps inviting the child to school. The decision here will be in the school’s child welfare commission, “said the minister.

According to J. Šiugždinienė, the founder of the schools, the municipalities, will have to solve the questions of how to get the children to school, how to feed them and who will take care of them.

“It won’t be lessons at school, it’s distance learning, just in a school setting.”

The ministry has also developed a package of aid measures to compensate for learning losses during the pandemic, with a budget of 7.5 million euros. euros.

As the ministry announced on Wednesday, targeted assistance will be provided to graduates, children from socially vulnerable families, and other students, the provision of computer equipment to schools, strengthening the competencies of teachers, and caring for children in the school.

Consideration is being given to resuming face-to-face learning for seniors. Primary and secondary education is being considered mixed, and vocational and higher education should be distance learning, with the exception of practical training.
