Širinskienė: The traffic restrictions introduced are disproportionate

Seimas member Agnė Širinskienė affirms that the bans introduced are equivalent to the emergency regime.

According to the parliamentarian, with rare exceptions, the prohibition to move to another municipality can cause the greatest difficulties for those who rent a house in one place and work in another, and people whose nearest store is in another municipality will have problems.

“In my head, there are many questions about their proportionality, because according to their scope they are equivalent to a state of emergency and a curfew,” A. Širinskienė told BNS on Monday.

“I think the restrictions were made without considering all life circumstances,” he said.

“Now there may be situations where a person works in Vilnius, but manages properties in some Trakai or Lentvaris or Elektrėnai under the rental right, but has no property there. Yes, in that case a person will come to work in Vilnius. But according to the government’s rules, he cannot return home ”, said the representative of the“ peasants ”.

“Living in my town, I cannot imagine why I will be able to go to Ignalina for 30 km to buy food, but I will not be able to go to Visaginas for 16 km, because there is already another municipality. There is no logic in some of the restrictions, they will definitely cause a lot of inconvenience to the residents, ”said A. Širinskienė.

A spokeswoman for the Campesinos said the existing police capacity would not be sufficient to maintain the restrictions for long, and the army would have to work.

“I believe that when the practical application of the restrictions begins, we will find ourselves in a difficult situation. I no longer speak of the lack of police capacity, because I remember very well when there were restrictions during the Easter period, it was already clear to the police that they could not raise more days, ”said the deputy from Seimas.

“I think it will be essential in this case without the introduction of the army, because with those capabilities maintaining the three-week restrictions so that they really work, and not just formal, is really very difficult,” he added.

According to A. Širinskienė, queues can form at checkpoints, as passersby will have to prove the purpose of their trip.

“At this stage, the closure of the non-food stores would have been provided, but in this case we are not only closing the stores, we are also severely restricting the movement of people during work and placing a burden of proof on them (. ..) You try to imagine what the rows would be “. – confirmed the parliamentarian.

According to her, problems will arise even for the assistants of Seimas members who go to work.

“We also have our assistants who live in Šiauliai and go to the Seimas to work, so they will probably have to demonstrate in each municipality that they work in the Seimas along the way. Such restrictions, in my head, do not contribute to the management of the pandemic, ”said A. Širinskienė.

According to the parliamentarian, it would not be necessary to restrict the movement of people on weekdays, it would be possible only on weekends or specifically during the Christmas period.

“One thing is the weekends, another thing is the holidays to restrict movement between family farms,” said the deputy of Seimas.

It also ignored the recommendation of the Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis to the Government to introduce restrictions on movement, as this obligation is provided for by law.

“There are many questions about where is the presentation of the Minister of Health, because such restrictions can only be done by presentation, but yesterday I saw the Government meeting from beginning to end and I waited a long time, practically three hours, but there was no ministerial presentation” Širinskienė.

On Sunday, the government decided to tighten the quarantine: as of Wednesday, it is forbidden for people who do not live together to meet in Lithuania, as well as to go outside their municipality, unless they go to work, to funerals, to the necessary medical care or to your own home in another municipality. This insurance is valid until January 3.
