“Almost exactly one year ago, when the decision on the protocol resolution was made, I tried to warn the president of Seimas V. Pranckietis that I was making a mistake that would be fatal in the Constitutional Court. My colleague J. Bernatonis and I said the same thing in the Coalition Council (V. Pranckietis had not yet invented that he was a liberal at the time), we tried to propose the wording of the resolution. The Seimas Spokesperson asked to remain silent because it seemed different to him that he acted in accordance with the norms of the Statute (now also recognized as unconstitutional) – he took the Seimas and the Government hostage by stubbornly registering the protocol resolution,
The president of the Public Order Committee believes that the reason for such behavior of the president of Seimas is laziness.
“After all, the resolution of the protocol, as it was understood then, is adopted in one go, the session is extraordinary, it is summer and you want to take a vacation. Meanwhile, it would have taken three sessions of the Seimas, at least three business days, to pass the resolution. I think the opposition, who are now quick to shout that ‘the sky is falling apart’ and are looking for enemies, should take a good look at the liberals this time. Especially those who pretended to be just before the elections, ”said A. Širinskienė.
V. Pranckietis claims that A. Širinskiene’s memory stagnated
For his part, V. Pranckietis states that he believes that A. Širinskienė’s memory has failed. The president of the Seimas recalls that this is the form of the resolution of the Seimas on the powers of the Government presented to the president of the Seimas by the “social worker” Juozas Bernatonis on behalf of the ruling coalition.
“In the opinion of the president of the Seimas, apparently the memory of Ms Širinskienė will be weak, because last year this form of resolution of the Seimas on the powers of the Government was presented to the president of the Seimas by Juozas Bernatonis on behalf of the ruling coalition. The same position was actively defended by Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis during the discussion of this resolution in the Seimas Hall, which can easily be seen from the stage of the session.
“This was the path chosen by the rulers and, unfortunately, it was not the first to cross our Constitution. The president of Seimas also points out that he does not participate in the coalition council mentioned by the member of Seimas, in which A. Širinskienė ”, he also explained.
ELTA recalls that a group of members of the Seimas, made up of representatives of the Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD), the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the factions of the Liberal Movement and the Mixed Seimas, appealed to the Constitutional Court the unconstitutionality of a resolution that reassigns powers to the Government.
In their speech, the members of the Seimas pointed out that President Gitanas Nausėda had approved the composition of the Government by decree, in which, as of the date of his authorization in 2016, on December 13, more than half of the ministers they changed. In accordance with article 198 of the Statute, which provides for the reassignment of powers to the Government, the Seimas granted the powers with effect from 2016. government program approved.
