On Wednesday, the cabinet decided on February 28. 24 hours to extend the quarantine and movement restrictions between municipalities.

“It does not mean that the resolution as it is will be in full force for the entire next month. However, this means that so far the government has no reason to change the regime,” I. Šimonytė told reporters on Wednesday.

He points out that, in terms of the number of infections, Lithuania, although achieving better rates than at the end of last year, still does not sufficiently control the incidence of Covid-19.

“The situation has improved significantly since the end of last year and from peak numbers, when we saw several thousand infections per day, but it has not yet improved enough for us to talk about revoking the quarantine order,” he said.

The Government, together with the Government Emergency Commission, intends to assess the epidemiological situation in Lithuania on a weekly basis and decide how the quarantine can be relaxed accordingly.

“We will be able to make more relief, depending on how the situation continues. So far, the situation has stopped improving as fast as it did in the first weeks, as the quarantine gives the best effect from the beginning. In the future, they will be needed. both additional measures and additional decisions on testing, ”said I. Šimonytė.

The cabinet did not consider easing the quarantine on Wednesday. However, next week there should be a clear plan on how Lithuania will gradually come out of quarantine. According to the draft, the first mitigation can be expected in mid-February, depending on the epidemiological situation in the country.

Education, health and business have been identified as priority areas for release from quarantine.
