On his personal Facebook account, I. Šimonytė, who is appointed prime minister of the next majority, writes:

“The government’s rhetorical balance in trying to show huge cost increases next year is a bit confusing, as the cost increases are all mostly from 2020 onwards. Plan, not by fact – the latter would seem quite restrained. This budget already, even at the rhetorical level, has not broken records or been mentioned aloud. Overall, it is quite similar to the current one this year. “

According to the politician, some things in the new budget proposals are “indisputable”.

“The law introduces changes of various sizes (with regard to pensions, it is true that the law still needs to be slightly adjusted, removing the illogical link with the fall in GDP, since the wage bill is expected to continue growing, for which is also a source of indexation of pensions).

Child money, basic amount, minimum wage, pensions: all this will be implemented regardless of which side the Government is formed, ”I. Šimonytė is convinced.

It is reprehensible for some politicians that the coalition formed by the right-wing parties should not do something or even reduce something. There is no need for this, because unlike 2008. Lithuania has adopted the euro.

“It is important not to fall into the temptation at the last moment of trying to hit some impractical pig at the opponents, only so that later it is possible to point out the opposition,” explains the member of Seimas.

The TS-LKD electoral program states that the ratio of Lithuania’s tax revenue to GDP should increase by at least 3-4 percentage points to ensure the sustainability of the financing of public services. In general, conservatives believe that taxes should be increased or more collected.

However, I. Šimonytė writes that there are no fiscal changes in the budget presented by the current government, and therefore there is no dispute about it: “This is not the time or place to consider something similar.”

According to her, many Tax changes adopted during the crisis, then there was an increase in value added, personal income and other taxes, are still in force today, so they were necessary.

However, according to I. Šimonytė, the Seimas will have to discuss the costs of the ADN plan, which was approved without further discussion. The projects envisaged therein are expected to be financed with borrowed funds. Therefore, they will need to be carefully reviewed to obtain the benefits and not the costs.

“And this, and not the futile breaking of decisions already made on de facto child money or the laying of additional underwater mines, should have time to consider the budget.

The occasion is too rare and the risks too great to go back to business as usual. And I suggest to the soldiers of the last battles not to fight the battles that ended long ago, life has changed. And thank goodness. And the eurozone ”, summarized I. Šimonytė.

We recall that this week there was a lot of public debate on the entry of MEP Andrius Kubilius, in which he criticized the draft budget presented by the rulers, which will cause a strong hangover and will have to tighten his belt in the future.
